Was Hutchings looked at for diving to get the 50 metre penalty? Massive dive and got a 50 metre for it.

Really?

Hutchings took a mark and Lewis tried to spoil late....a free and 50 every day of the week. Even the Vic commentators couldn't mount an argument.

How that was anything like Olivers flop to the ground is beyond belief.

Young fella took a professional soccer dive and now has to live with it. Bet he wished he could have his time again.

Soccer professionals don't dive during half time so don't give up your day job clayton

I reckon Oliver's not being given the benefit of the doubt. Massively

Whereas the perpetrator is. Typical of mrp type things

And he wasn't milking or anything because the only gain was to get the eagle rubbed out

There was no free to be gained. North Melbourne style

If he deliberately set out to get the eagle suspended then it's another thing altogether

Did he know that he couldn't get a free kick at half time though? He seemed to get up pretty quickly when he realised that no free was getting paid.

It's pretty obvious that he flopped and I'm not sure why people are defending him. Repeat offender now. He was very fortunate to get away with the Higgins incident, he's getting a reputation now.

The problem is, these guys aren't fined, they're not suspended, and in most cases they're rewarded with free kicks or 50 metre penalties...

It's weak. It's disgraceful. It's the OPPOSITE of what our game is about. But until the law makers and umps start punishing it, you can't blame players for trying to gain an advantage for their team.

Ours is the greatest, toughest, hardest team sport in the world. We don't need this garbage staining it.

I say suspend them for any obvious diving, faking, etc. No warning!
You throw yourself around like a moron, **** off! One week! That'll fix them.
And I'd have no problem if it was a player from my side.

Unfortunately (in my opinion), you called it.

Bloody mess now isn't it. Either it really did get him and he's talked to the doctors and a lot of people including myself need to issue an apology or he has gotten a bloke suspended for nothing which means he deserves the reputation.

Schofield should have kept his elbow to himself - it's beyond belief that the blame is on the guy who was clipped. FACT: without the elbow (which is clearly showed making contact) none of this would be an issue.

Just wondering if any of you tough guys lamenting Oliver's dive have ever been elbowed in the chin - or thrown one?

As a female who does taekwondo - my elbow is my first choice strike for self defense - I can put hardly any effort or energy in and know that it will impact hard enough for me to get away or plan my next self defense move.

Haven't seen the incident but not sure why Oliver is getting so much heat - diving has been an accepted part of the game ever since Nick Riewoldt flopped around like a dead fish in the 2009 PF.

I dislike the term "dive" being used to describe many of the events it's being associated with on here

A dive to me is when there is zero contact that would affect you to react the contact i.e. when players brush past each other and there is no head high contact, yet one of the players goes down clutching their face

The majority of the time, the term "dive" is just used to describe an instance where a player has accentuated contact that was already there. Staging would be a more fitting term, but still alludes to acting/diving

FWIW Oliver accentuated the contact that was already there. He got hit on the chin - however lightly - and milked it. But the fact that he milked it doesn't change the fact that there was contact - and intentional contact, too (it just was bugger all force from the looks of it). Was there a need for him to react the way he did? Probably not. But he didn't make up getting hit.
Put simply ... Did Schofield's hit knock him to the ground? No.

How did he end up on the ground then? He dived.

AFL need to stamp I out, not sure of suspension maybe name and shame with a hefty fine.

Umpires get sucked in by serial offenders, I can't ****ing stand this diving for attention & free kicks the same players do it week in week out

Of course his hit didn't have enough force to knock him to the ground

But my point was the contact was still there and if there is contact then it's less of a dive and more accentuating the contact that's already there

If Schofield had feigned it or hit him elsewhere and he went down clutching his face then yeah sure, I'd consider that a dive

But if there is contact there it's not a dive imo

Eagles fans won't defend Darlings staging, he has that reputation and has to live with it. Unfortunately Oliver is going the same way, and he doesn't need to.
I didn't like the dive but don't throw the punch.
No sympathy for Schofield here.
Oliver attacks the contest with utter toughness. There is a massive difference between him and Darling in that regard.

Has Darling's staging ever gotten someone suspended?

Pretty sure the first word of my response was no...

Great.

As long as you can live with Oliver accentuating contact to get someone suspended then all power to you I suppose.

Don't punch, don't get rubbed out.
Is there some part of that you can't get your head around or should I explain it further.
Makes no difference if he stood there and took it or ended up 3 feet under - Schofield still gets a week.
It really is quite simple.
