I know there's a lifestyle board but seemed kind of lame. Just a thread to non-judgmentally
chat about exercise.

I'll kick things off, I was very happy to set my squatting PB this morning.

Bahahaha

Come on in folks, have a nice friendly chat... OP won't judge you, promise. He doesn't just want somewhere to tell you how hot he is

Yeah **** you DG! How dare you eat properly and take care of yourself!

Bitches. Fat ugly bitches.

My issue is largely with the media. If I had a child I wouldn't want them growing up believing that obesity is not something to be ashamed of because it is.

Because Bunk is fat and jealous. Unless you lose weight through the use of AOD thin people are scum in his mind.

Of course I have a dog in this fight. Thin shaming is a thing, that's why I started this thread. Beyond that, I've worked hard in the gym to get nice broad shoulders and a decent rig again, and now the ******* dadbod is popular. Get stuffed society!

Not jelly, just raging. I don't want a dadbod, I think they're really unattractive. I'm angry that people think that being lazy is attractive.

It kills me a little bit on the inside. It just does.

Maybe you guys can help me.

I don't exercise, ever. I hate it. I used to do dance classes 5 nights a week but gave it up a few years ago when I was working 55 hours a week. My cousin, who has been diagnosed with MS, has set himself a goal to run a half marathon to prove that his diagnosis isn't a life sentence.
I'd love to be able to learn to run (sounds stupid, I know, but I'm ****ing shit at physical activity) so that I can support him in his quest next year. Maybe not a half marathon, but something is better than nothing, right?

Set yourself mini goals each day such as running 2km to start with (or at least attempt to) and then increase it when you feel you can run much further. I assume you work full time so the only times you can do this is before or after work and because we're in winter it is too dark and scary to do this at the moment.

Coming from a zero base is a bigger mental challenge than physical. Personally think running is one of the worst things you can start with - it's draining and downright ****in boring, which makes it very hard to stick at.

I'd start with something more fun to build a base level of fitness, and then start running in a few months when it's a bit easier. I think you'll be far more likely to stick at it then.

I'd go with some kind of class at your local gym because they mix it up, and doing it with other people makes it better and motivating. Then go running when you're a bit fitter.

I go to a boxing gym as I enjoy it, but everyone is different.

Physically, running also sucks more if you're carrying a bit as its harder on the joints.

Yeah that's my problem. We have a dog but he's too old to do anything more than walk, and I'm too scared to go out by myself...so I keep making excuses. My other excuse was that I didn't have a sports bra but I've got that now so I just need some natural light and I'm all out of reasons not to go :p

I hate gyms, I think they're awful. I'd more more likely to stick to a dance class but I don't know that it would be particularly helpful for this?

A dance class will help raise your fitness level then you could give running a go if you're feeling more confident. I've learned to enjoy running, but it began as a chore.

.

Running is good for weight loss, but hard on the joints and heart. it's not something you do for a health kick. It's like going to subway instead of McDonalds.

Interval training is good for weight loss.

Long distance, not so much.

Coming from zero base, go swimming or jump on a (exercise or otherwise) bike, running will destroy your joints.

Biggest mistake people make is going from not exercising at all to pounding the pavement.

Would be to start with for sure. If you're doing nothing just do whatever you can stick with for a couple of months. Ramp it up after that

Look up a phone app called Couch To 5 Km (C25K).

30 minutes a day, 3 days a week, for 8 weeks.

It's a great tool to go from doing nothing to be able to do 5k in an attainable amount of time. Starts off super easy and doesn't ask the world.

My older brother got me into running a couple of years ago - probs just to keep him company lol. I hate it but still try to go with him most nights but when we moved to Melbz, we all of a sudden had a massive aquatic centre like 5 minutes away so at the start of the year I took up swimming as exercise and I love it. I usually do between 300 and 500 meters every other arvo after school. One of my younger brothers has started coming with me once a week maybe twice but I don't know if he will stick with it yet. Its so good 'cause when I am done it kinda feels like I have been lifting weights and running at the same time.

IT'S JUST US ATHLETES IN HERE IS IT? Better tell Morganashlee to not come in here, she's not jacked up like we are :fire:
I've told you not to tag me when I'm eating KFC campaigner.

I'm ripped like Dub and we have the same anchor tattoo ;)

Dunno why I've stopped swimming the past year or so. Used to go at least once a week- the leisure centre is a bit of a pain to get to, but other than that no excuses really. Best is swimming laps in the outdoor pool in summer pre 9/10am before all the kiddies/crowds get there. Sometimes I'd even have the whole 50M pool to myself even then, is bliss.

Dustin Fletcher called, he wants his pecs back :drunk:
Pretty happy with the guns in those photos, shame about my ******* derpy face.

There's no guns, not even a small pistol. They are more like a knuckle duster than any sort of firing weapon.

Maybe a party popper, certainly nothing with any fire power. Popeye would be ashamed of Vanilla Bryce :p

More like party pooper for putting such a pathetic effort into being a 'pirate'
