Health Thin shaming

I hope none of them have invites.
Every time someone asks I make a mental note to make sure they're not on the list.

Mostly men, women or an even distribution of both?

I know a couple of girls who are soon to be married/recently married that are sensitive about their weight (neither are heavy, it's just insecurity) and I'd want them restrained before asking that question...
Mostly women and a couple of gay men. Not one straight man has asked.

I have thin friends who are called skeletons, accused of having eating disorders, etc. Why is that okay?
Because Bunk is fat and jealous. Unless you lose weight through the use of AOD thin people are scum in his mind.

Thin shaming does seem counter-intuitive to what you would expect a body image issue to be, but given the minority is almost always the loudest in every issue ever, its not that surprising.

The most important thing is to be healthy. Better to be a few kgs overweight but walk 5km a day than be thin and smoke/drink/have a junk food diet.

It's not, but I highly, highly doubt on the whole thoughout our community that thin people face the same amount of prejudices and judgment that fat people do.

Being overweight isn't a good situation, there's obvious health risks for the person. But the targeting of fat people just because they're fat, and the assumptions that are made about them, aren't great and are on the rise in society.

If nothing else it's completely childish. When morons try to cover that up by saying it's an economic issue etc, it just hurts the brain to hear.

Yes, I agree that overweight people have it tough, but that doesn't mean that we should ignore the shit that thin people cop too. It's like when something bad happens and people say it could have been worse. Yes it could be, but so what? It's still shit.

Nope, I'm in good shape and have never gained or lost any significant amount of weight. I use MyFitnessPal to watch my intake, and do multiple boxing and pilates sessions a week. I'd be fit enough to land a few on your chin.

I'm sure it happens, just like I'm sure somewhere there's some poor white people being "oppressed".

When those who aren't however start whining about it, like someone trying to "force food on their wife" (how you even type that with a straight face I don't know, I couldn't), they just sound like those white Aussies with their "reverse racism" stuff. It's funny.

That's what I said. It sounds exactly like that.

As mostly males in this thread, we probably have no right to talk about it womens body issues.

Now, trying being a lean bodied fella who isn't interesting in getting a 24hr gym membership in this day and age, and you'll find equality is definitely here, in the way of body image bullying.
How old are you? I know when I was at High school I copped it for being a skinny weed, but after the 'kids are dicks' age it never rated a mention. And it was only at high school from other guys, never girls.

These days (41) I hit the gym 4 times a week and have moved from skinny to athletic. With middle age and a bulging disc in the back training for strength and health is more the aim, but I see most under 30 guys train the 'show' muscles a lot more, then the number going the more balanced route.

I don't think glossing over obesity does anyone any favours, but I see the key difference is women cop it twice over - from some men (although what men prefer is generally more curves - not fat - then women think) and other women. Guys are less critical of other guys (if over 30 at least).

Yeah, to a degree. The leading man in almost all movies these days is buff as hell. Though (provided drugs aren't involved), I think that's less of a problem then when women were expected to be dangerously under weight to be attractive (you can't starve yourself to being ripped, you have to put in the exercise, which is healthy).

One of the reasons I think 'thin shaming' is so idiotic though, is the last 5 - 10 years there's been a real change in the mindset of how athletic women are found attractive (by men and as a self confidence thing for many women) - 'strong is the new sexy' etc. Yes, female leads in movies are still slim, but you look around at the new Terminator or SJ in the Avengers or the like and they are no longer the 'helpless waif', but fit and strong in their own right. Obviously like all movie role models they are bullshit to a degree, but they are 100 times better then the old 'starve yourself to attractive' sort.

Not sure I'd call the new Sarah Connor fit and strong, certainly not compared to the older action ladies of the 80s like Linda Hamilton or Bridgette Neilson.

Guys are expected to bigger whilst girls are getting smaller.

Which, with females, has led to backlash against it and encouraging healthier bodies, curvy if you will, which has led to another backlash prejudice against skinny bodies.

It isn't like reverse racism at all. Not the best comparison.

crying about fat shaming still has its limits, even a 'real women with curves' will turn her nose up at a bed-ridden gainer. it's adjusting the middle ground to suit themselves.
and they might be able to cry about the supposed plight of real women who have curves, but there's no cards to play for fat person stink.
