You can just see him leaving to play elsewhere and the magpies faithful wondering why why didn't we play him.

Jarryd Blair (15k, 17h, 5m, 1g, 4t):
Probably our best player. On which player Blair resembles in the club’s senior 22: Probably no one. He is similar to (Luke) Ball in that they both win the hard ball. Blair has a bigger tank and spreads to get some of his possessions. He has the ability to run and receive an uncontested mark (which he needs to do more often). Blair can extract the ball and break away from the pack whereas Ball will look to carry the load and then handball off.

No you cant

and there are plenty of reasons why he doesnt get a game
height
Short arms
lack of speed
poor kick
doesnt get involved enough away from the midfield
The form of wellingham, sidebottom, beams and ball
The fact that O'bree is a better, taller, more battle hardened and season player as back up.

Blair will definitely be put on the senior list IMO.

The next few drafts are compromised however we have the luxury of being able to promote guys like Blair and Ron Weasley onto our list as part of our 3 mandatory list changes.

Probably our best player??????:confused::eek::rolleyes:

WTF.
He has never played a single AFL game.

Is that you Jarryd? Or is that you Jarryd's manager?

Jarryd's Mum perhaps?

That was Gavin Brown's assessment, so fair to say he has some support there. I wouldn't be too surprised to not see him this year, though. Plenty of names in the mix, so few spots. Meh.

Haha, nah man, that's Gav Brown's assessment of Blair's game on the weekend :p

@The OP, we aren't play him because he isn't even on the list. Nice thread on the GC board as well, haha :thumbsu:

Is this thread and the one on the GC board a ****ing joke.

Seriously, you are trying to "sell" a player we will have put 2 years of development in to our ****ing competitors.

I love the way Jarryd Blair goes about it at VFL level, but the plain and simple fact is, he is still a while off getting a game.

The only way Blair would get a senior game this year is if we thought we needed to rest Ball, and O'Bree was considered too old to be the "pure extractor" that Ball is, because that's all Blair is at the moment, a "pure extractor".

Am I missing something here, or did a pies supporter just try to "sell" one of our own kids to another ****ing team?

Yeah that GC thread is a bit weird DSwan.

And in reality the only way that the Gold Coast could pick him up is if he was not going to get promoted onto our list by either choice of club or player which is unlikely IMO. He will get elevated and then he will work to get a game like any other player on our list.

For the record I really rate Jarryd. I think that Blair was not drafted as clubs are too strung up about finding the right athletic type and forget that footballing ability and smarts are just as important. To me I can see a lot of ability in Blair although that is framed in a body shorter than the norm. I think that he has the ability though to make it and his form in the VFL at his age and height is enough evidence to take the gamble.

I suggest you search for Dswan's past threads.

Not a Pies supporter, a white ant fifth columnist.

i get the feeling dswan is someone is a pissed off disgruntled ex collingwood player of some sort.. ie. shannon cox.. or a players dad.

wouldn't it help if he was promoted off the rookie list first.. getting a little ahead there.

He can't be that bad, he won the Morrish Medal, which indicates he was the best player that year.

I've seen him play numerous times and his disposal 80% of the time is great, plus he does get involved outside of midfield, just this week he kicked a goal. Plus he can play a high HFF very well.

Height should not be an issue, Boomer Harvey hasn't suffered to badly from his height, Blair uses his body extremely well for someone of his stature.

He could come into our team at any time and you would not notice any deficiency's in our game.

Will be a very good player.

Bazinga.

im still waiting for josh thomas to get a game, but im being patient.

here is our perfect chance to get some silverware and we need experience in the side to go all the way. dont want to risk it with kids.

be patient mate.

i actually dont think he'll get elevated, think he'll get cut or re taken as a rookie. Too many limitations, i probably share opti's view. Sinclair and Josh Thomas will go past him once fit.

Interesting topic this one.

I was having a heated argument with my brother (who is a loyal collingwood member) about Blair.

He is of the opinion that Blair won't make at AFL simply becuase of his size.
My brother reckons he is too small.................Hello i said to him, what about players like marc murphy, nahas, ablett, carrazzo, foley, boomer Harvey, Melchan,Scully, trengove, and the list goes on.

Blair is a pure ball magnet with an uncanny flair to be where the ball is at all times he can run and carry and is a tough little hard nut.We need that sort of player.
He is quietly going about his business at VFL level and will be ready if called up.He averages at least 30 possies every game

He has been by far our best and most consistant player at VFL level over the past 12 months.Surely we need to give this kid a go.

By the way pies don't stuff this one up like we did when we had a kid called Liam Jurrah and we let him go,could have gotten him back through rupert bethras but passed on him and now the DEES are laughing.
We let go a future superstar don't do the same with this kid.

Different player to Harvey. Harvey is, by and large, an outside mid who thrives because of pace and skills. Blair plays an inside stoppage game, more like an undersized Kerr or Ball. It's a massive ask to play that style of footy at senior level given Blair's size.

Personally, I wouldn't be against giving him a crack at it -- he's been consistently good at VFL level, after all -- but I think the odds are stacked against him.

Is he even eligible to play??? I don't think there is a spot on the senior list right now.

I think he'll be promoted. I like the kid. His chance will come next year.

Not unless we have someone on the LTI list, though I think in the second half of the year we can elevate one rookie regardless of whether or not we have any long-term injuries.

From what I heard he was pretty impressive in the NAB Challenge against Adelaide and Richmond.

Who are, incidently, the worst two sides in the league currently.

No rush on Blair, I see him as a prospect but he's not overly close currently...
An injury or two might push him forward in calculations, but until then it's good to see him dominating at VFL level... can't ask for much more than that.
