Yep, Longmire the only coach in the competition who doesn't think an elite intercept defender is an important component

Or they saw getting better coverage in the ruck as a priority, Tom McCartin's emergence as a key defender covered a big part of the loss and they needed to manage the TPP.

Or Longmire is an idiot and knows nothing about footy.

I’d heard the club still wasn’t happy with Aliir’s approach to training, taking on feedback, etc
One thing that’s been bothering me about the Aliir situation was the “ he didn’t like playing in the ruck” line that some have alluded to on this forum. We had so many injuries to rucks last year that we were forced into playing makeshift rucks like him and others at times. A team game means when it’s your turn to “take one for the team” you sacrifice your game for the greater good for your teammates and your team. If the coaching staff thought he wasn’t giving 100% during this time then I can understand why we didn’t fight harder to keep him. Just my thoughts.

He just got a way better deal than we were prepared to offer him. Sydney enabled it and it happened. I think we wanted to keep him but not at that price or not for some other reason. Any way, that is what happens. Its done. Move on.

“Well I wasn’t much of a footballer... “ lol
Yes Tony... you shouldn’t have been the first!

He comes across as a beautiful man, so glad he's found his niche as he is truly a wonderful role model for young indigenous people.

Membrey signed a three year extension and is in the leadership group at the Saints. Of all the players we lost (Jones, Hannebery, Mitchell, Nankervis, AA etc) I always felt a bit disappointed by letting go of Membrey so soon. He always seemed to have potential and he’s doing well.

Carved out such a solid career now. Nothing that makes me think we desperately should have kept him but he could be a 200 game, 300 goal player by the time he hangs up the boots.

Just read that former Swans Academy member Luke Parks has been picked to debut for Carlton. They picked him up in the most recent rookie draft after a year at Glenelg in the SANFL. Think I remember him playing some games as a top-up in the NEAFL for the Swans. Anyone remember if he played for them? Seem to recall the similarity in name to Parker.

iirc played a few top up games. Had a solid enough debut with the Blues.

Good, still going strong on the footy field at 51.
Bad, never knew he quit the Swans due to his issues with depression/anxiety.

Said it before but you never know what is going on in the lives of the guys we watch every week.
Troy always seemed like that lovable, upbeat larrikin, yet a very different story in real life.

One of my all-time favourites, particularly in the dark days of post Hafey, pre Eade, when a Troy Luff mark could brighten up any spectator's day.
