MINOR PREMIERS! In his first season, GremioPower has already felt the sweet taste of a championship. “I will think about Finals tomorrow. Tonight, I will celebrate. The Minor Round matters here at the club. It is not a small feat, and winning two in a row is even harder,” revealed the rookie. He had more reason to celebrate, besides the title.

With three goals and 5 score involvements, the Atom Ant brought a sense of déjà-vu to all the supporters at the Underground stadium – a great feeling at the right time. It was impossible to watch the Brazilian and not be reminded of his R11 match against the Hawks; which rendered him a Rising Star nomination. Still, he changed position with akkaps and was momentarily subbed out for Far Kern ; sparkling controversy among both barrackers and analysts.

He is totally capable of playing as a target. He has proven that time and time again, including today,” justified philreich . “We moved him up the field a bit to explore a possible mismatch. He needed a rest, so we gave him a rest. That’s all.” Following it up, the Rats’ coach admitted that not only GremioPower, but any player can have his position switched if needed: “It’s Finals. Every card is on the table.

The Gaucho-Brazilian didn’t seem to mind. “I want to play and help the team. I leave to the coaches deciding where.” The Atom Ant's main concern is to be ready for Finals. “It wasn’t easy beating the Roys, and we will replay them. I need to prepare some new tricks. Let’s see what I can do.

Will the Swamprats win back to back games against the Roys? Can the Minor Premiership be a burden for the Rats during Finals? Is GremioPower able to take his momentum into Finals?

Stay tuned!

Neither having much reason to brag, GremioPower either broke even with windyhill or vaguely bested him - it was hard to tell.

THE SIN CITY MIRACLE
A story in 3 acts

PRELUDE - The Hole Underground
"The Rats won!" Everyone at the Underground and probably also those watching around the world had trouble believing those words, uttered while the final siren still echoed at the stadium. They all had witnessed it, the Rats had indeed won, but they all were wondering how could it be true.

There were fewer than 16 minutes remaining to be played, and the locals were trailing by 28 points. The Rats had been struggling to score for the entire game; suffering to adjust for the rainy conditions.

The controversial rule forbidding playing Finals with the roof closed was hurting the home team. Needing 5 unanswered goals in a quarter of hour, the Rats had scored only 6 in the previous 85 minutes of the match.

At that point, Power Raid and GremioPower were the only straight shooters, but they had one goal each. SarahSmiles was the only other Rat with more goals than behinds (3.2). philreich , ant555 , and LukeParkerno1 had kicked 1.7 combined.

Still, the unimaginable indeed happened...

THE SIN CITY MIRACLE
A story in 3 acts

ACT I - Equilibrium
Rats and Roys had played in the same venue just a week before. Despite the locals winning almost from start to finish, the R17 game hadn't been but a close affair between two strong Top-4 sides. The rematch began where the previous meeting had stopped.

This time, the visitors drew first blood through goals from Mego Red and Mooch. It took a while for the Sin City's favorites to get into the game. After the low start, the homers began to dominate the action. However, they failed to translate it onto the scoreboard.

The Rats had control over half an hour of qooty, scoring seven times, while holding the opponent to only two. Still, the initial difference had only been cut down from 12 to 2 points. It was early Q2, and the score shown "Rats, 2.5:17; Roys, 3.1:19."

Then, the rain got worse; and the Roys got better. At halftime, the Rats were trailing by 16 points. For most of the quarter, the Minor Premiers couldn't get near the goal, while the opposition scored 4 times — two majors, from Mego Red (2.0) and _Mike_. If the first half had been close, one could only guess by the scoring shots: "Rats, 2.5:17; Roys, 5.3:33."

During the main break, in the cold and dark afternoon, typical of Sin City's Fall (Winter is both colder and darker), those drenched supporters kept their spirits high — their liquored spirits. All the joy shown prior to the match seemed to have vanished. Little did they know that things were about to get worse; way worse...

ACT II - All Roys
The Roys opened the second half with StickyMick scoring a major. However, as the rain subsided, the Rats began to react. With the storm gone and their team improving on the field, the stadium was rocking again. SarahSmiles scored a goal, then Power Raid, and aided by a couple of behinds, the deficit had been reduced from 22 to just 8 points: "Rats, 4.7:31; Roys, 6.3:39."

The Underground was trembling. As it is common in SFA matches at Sin City, it became hard listening to one's own voice as the supporters sang for their players. The comeback felt certain, but this is qooty; and qooty can be mischievous, treacherous, and cruel.

Against the odds, the qooty gods decided to turn the tide of the match the other way. Instead of a Rats' comeback, suddenly, it was all Roys. I Dont Care scored a goal that seemed to have opened the gates of Hell. The visitors were unstoppable. Runk, twice, Mooch, GCB85, and a couple of behinds increased their lead to 40 points: "Rats, 4.7:31; Roys, 11.5:71."

For those witnessing the massacre, the 3QT siren came as a relief. The thought that another game at home in the next week was inevitable passed through everybody's mind. Everybody, but one. Still, could a sole sparkle be able to light a fire against the rain?

INTERLUDE - Sparkle in the Rain
The qooty gods have a very peculiar sense of humor. One cannot take anything for granted; not even a 40-point 3QT lead. It is hard to know what pleases them. Sometimes, one needs luck. There are few moments that luck is brought by an unlikely hero.

During the break, in the huddle, Sparkle gave the main speech. He had started the match on the bench and was called in during Q3. However, saying that he didn't play well would be an understatement.

Still, regardless of his play, Sparkle stepped up and asked to say a few words before the last term. philreich and SarahSmiles were taken by such a display of courage in such a dire situation and consented.

Sparkle stared each one of his teammates and said:

"I know I have spend my time on the ground eating donuts, but we aren't losing because of me; nor because of GremioPower or sportsmaniac89 or anyone. We are losing because of us! We are failing as a team.

Look around. Look at the stands. They all came here to support us. Listen to the silence. Come on! They all came to support us. We are failing them. The oval was packed hours before the game. Tickets were sold out for a week. They got behind us. We are the mighty Rats, and we are disappointing them.

We are disappointing ourselves! We've played some tremendous qootball over the course of the season and had some fantastic victories, but this is where we are supposed to shine. This is the finals. This is our time.

Let's put the past three quarters behind us. Let's show respect to the Black, White, Red and Gold we wear with pride. Let's hit the ground running and send the Roys into next week. If there's a team that can do this is the Sin City Swamprats!
"

Then, the siren ending the break sounded. The final term was about to begin...

THE SIN CITY MIRACLE
A story in 3 acts

ACT III - Divine Smile
When the match's last act came, things were indeed different. Even though they weren't different enough, the Rats had once again the control over the actions. ant555 and SarahSmiles scored behinds, which were followed by a goal from Sarah.

Then, the Roys scored two minors, with a major by GremioPower in between. There were 16 minutes to be played, and the locals, despite having cut the deficit, were still trailing by a large margin (28 points). It was when the qooty gods smiled — SarahSmiled.

In less than three minutes, in exactly 154 seconds, the Rats scored four goals; two from an inspired Sarah. There were fewer than 9 minutes remaining, and the difference was reduced to less than a goal: "Rats, 10.9:69; Roys, 11.7:73."

The Underground exploded! Sin City literally experienced an earthquake. This time, however, players wouldn't let it stop. The city would need to hold on. They went on moved by Sparkle 's words: "Finals is where we shine." The rain didn't matter. In Sin City, people carry the Sun in their hearts.

Sarah, however, had a Supernova inside his chest. With three other scores (1.2), he finally put the Rats in front for the first time in the entire game. Then, LukeParkerno1 scored a major, crushing any hope that the Roys might still have had and setting the final score: "Rats, 12.11:83; Roys, 11.7:73."

The final siren sounded. "The Rats won!" Those words echoed amidst the Babel of noises from everywhere on the ground. We all had witnessed it, but, despite the uncontrollable joy we were feeling, no one could believe it. Still, they were true.

The Minor Premiers had erased a 40-point 3QT deficit and won. The Sin City Swamprats had made history. It was a statement for all the SFA world to see and take note: "Do never take us for granted. We are here to win it all!"

The rematch against the Roys has once again brought remembrances from a GremioPower’s previous performance. However, his Finals debut was very close to his SFA debut, which was a disaster. It wasn’t that GremioPower made only mistakes, far from it, but he was practically unseen throughout the match – even though he stayed in the field for the entire game. The ball hardly went towards the Atom Ant, and, when it did, Roylion was mostly able to neutralize any threat. Allikat also did a good job in the last term, but in GremioPower’s only great moment of the day, the Roy defender couldn’t stop him from scoring.

No. It didn’t feel like my debut at all. I was probably a bit overexcited at the beginning, but that was all,” argued the rookie who gave a scary tackle on Lion in the first term. “There has been no game like it. Not only because we overcame a 40-point deficit in the last quarter, but because of SarahSmiles. This wasn’t about me at all. Sarah simply didn’t let anyone else do anything down forward.” The Brazilian also said he doesn’t mind winning that way. “Still, I’m prepared to contribute whenever Sarah is not in a good day.”

The Rats had a bye last week, which was good to refresh bodies and minds before the Preliminary. They face the Furies, which they had played against right before the two matches against the Roys. “It was one of our best games in the season,” said coach philreich. “We are expecting a harder game this time, but we are also confident that we are going to beat them again. We haven’t lost focus. Quite the contrary, everybody seems readier than ever.” In their last meeting, GremioPower scored three goals.

Will GremioPower rebound after his QF performance? Can the Rats win its fourth game in a row and play in the S29 GF?

Stay tuned!

My name came up in every quarter, the official statsheet robbed me a tackle and a disposal, I have scored a goal, but, overall, I was not very active in my first final:
1 : 8.04 {FB} - GremioPower might be in trouble with the tribunal after that tackle on Roylion. Play on is the call.
1 : 15.16 {CHF} - ant555 signals for his teammates to present.
1 : 15.21 {lFP} - He just bombs away in the direction of GremioPower and Roylion.
1 : 15.26 {lFP} - Anybody's ball.
2 : 4.27 {FB} - RU_ takes off.
2 : 4.31 {rBP} - He kicks across the ground towards Roylion.
2 : 4.37 {rBP} - But GremioPower is better positioned and marks safely.
2 : 4.41 {rFP} - LukeParkerno1 with the ball now.
3 : 20.13 {rHFF} - akkaps signals for his teammates to present.
3 : 20.19 {lFP} - Boots the ball toward GremioPower.
3 : 20.23 {lFP} - But chipping in front is Roylion.
4 : 7.08 {CHF} - ant555 sizes the options in front of him.
4 : 7.12 {lHFF} - A wild handball - but luckily Power Raid was well placed to clean up.
4 : 7.18 {lFP} - A poor handpass but GremioPower is up to the challenge.
4 : 7.22 {lFP} - GremioPower walks into goal.
4 : 7.26 {lFP} - GremioPower gives some to the crowd after that goal.

SIN CITY IS IN THE GRAND FINAL! The Rats had just been Minor Premiers when they tragic lost Magus, arguably the best interchange player of the season. Then, in the Qualifying Final, they were down by 40 points at 3QT against the Roys, but somehow still have found a way to win. Now, they are heading to the Sweet Grand Final, after beating the Furies in a hard-fought match.

It has been a very emotional ride,” revealed coach philreich. “We all share the belief that Magus is still with us somehow; that he still getting in and contributing. It certainly feels that way; that he is still helping us. Winning it, we want to dedicate the title for him.”

On the game, it was another close final. The visitors aren’t called ‘The Fighting Furies’ for nothing. They don’t know when they have been beaten. The match had been equal throughout the first half, but the Rats took control of the game in Q3. The hosts were leading by 31 points early in Q4.

However, the Furies still forced them to go into full defensive mode to secure the win. Even GremioPower ended up being called to move up there when the visitors had cut the difference to 19 points. He talked about it, after the match:

I hadn’t played at back since my debut on R10. When I was put there, to tell you the truth, I was nervous. They scored again; but Power Raid soon responded. That made me relax, which was worse. ant555 and I had a miscommunication [Note: Ant have already been helping the backline since Q3], it was my fault, and The Half Back goaled. I thought Ant would kill me at the spot, but no. He just got to me and said: ‘No worries, kid. They need more three of those. The pressure is on them.’ Ant is awesome! They couldn’t score again, and we are going to play in the Grand Final. It’s unbelievable!

Despite the Atom Ant’s struggles, his teammates are back him up. “Don’t look at the stats. GP is a team player,” commented captain SarahSmiles. “He is too passionate. It may get him into trouble, but it is mostly great. We need that. The way he reacted against Ned_Flanders ’ antics, for instance. I told him it was a bit over the top, but it helped firing up the team,” said Firestarter.

Despite also praising, GremioPower, philreich went further and mentioned the contribution all the Rats’ debutants have provided: “Our rookies are all we had wished for and more. Not only Atom, but Rich the babe Evans and Leviathan Pie have made us a better side. The #SwampratStyle is all about the team, and the newcomers have had no trouble understanding it.

The Swamprats are now before the Gates of Heaven. They have only the Demons between them and The Glory. However, their record against Mt. Buller in Finals is not good, and they got smashed in their R8 clash.

Can they exorcise these Demons, enter the Pantheon of Premier teams, and take the trophy back to Sin City? How well are GremioPower going to play in the most important game of his career? Will Mt. Buller be able to rebound from S28 GF loss?

Stay tuned!

2 : 19.21 {rHFF} - Almost a throw to akkaps.
2 : 19.25 {lHFF} - Quick hands to Power Raid.

While overall a quiet day for both players, GremioPower was way too good for Edmund hunt.
In what was a very slow day for both, GremioPower was easily the winner in the clash with biaseddustyfan.
In what was a very slow day for both, Nuffers had GremioPower's measure.
Neither having much reason to brag, rfctigerarmy either broke even with GremioPower or vaguely bested him - it was hard to tell.
In what was a very slow day for both, Stevi_Tigers won the bout with GremioPower.

THE GAUCHO JOURNAL: SEASON FINALE

What a season! What a Grand Final! The Atom Ant reserved his best for last, and it has paid off!

There were a bit more than seven minutes for the final siren. The Rats were leading by merely two points (10.12:72 - 11.4:70). DemonJim, still excited by the goal he had just scored, wasn’t call for running too far, but he couldn’t avoid the free for kicking out on the full. One could see the doors sliding.

The Rats aren’t known by their “champagne qootball,” but they are totally capable of playing it when they want to. This time, they wanted it. The ball went from one side of the field to the other in a fast succession of handballs: from Power Raid to Rich the babe Evans, back to Power Raid, then to ant555, and finally to an open GremioPower right in front of the sticks: “a gimme goal coming up if GremioPower keeps his cool… Oh, my God! What an excellent goal, in the most important moment. This rookie has nerves of steel.

The Demons managed to cut the lead back to two points later, but then it was too late. The Atom Ant’s third goal of the day had secured the Swamprats’ third flag; crowning an almost perfect season for Sin City. Before the arrival of the Brazilian international, the Rats had a solid 6-3 record; but after moving him to the forward pocket in his second match, they became practically unstoppable. Sin City has lost just once since. In ten games, they have won nine times; becoming both Minor and Major premiers in the process.

All the joy after the siren is well deserved and more. GremioPower, a fan favorite in the city, is now also a legend!

GremioPower - you do realise that, having set such a high standard in your first season, you'll have to try and maintain it in season 30???
That's an issue for next season. Carpe diem!

The Gaucho Journal, S30 R2
THE GAUCHO JOURNAL: S30, R2

It wasn't the start neither the Rats nor GremioPower was expecting. The offseason had brought experience and quality to the club's list with the arrival of Swamprats' legends MannumPower and Ant Bear, along with one of qooty's best in haydo. Our own Atom Ant, the S29 drazah winner, was included in the Leadership Group. Everything was looking fine for the #ReigningPremiers.

However, when preseason began, issues emerged. The build-up for S30 was complicated, marred with controversy and bad results. There has been some quarrel among the playing group. There was some hope that a good game in the opening round would put things back straight, but it didn't happen. The Royals won it, fair and square.

GremioPower, now on the bench, didn't play much. He was intense as usual, but, with a low ToG, he couldn't have much impact on the game. His highlight came in the last quarter, when he was put back in the FP. His defensive pressure down front was key for setting a goal from LukeParkerno1. Unfortunately, the difference was too great for that to matter.

This week, the Rats play the Furies away. The opposition won their match against the Bombers and is trying to build some momentum up.

Will Sin City rebound in Round 2? Can the Rats have a united lockerroom as they did in S29? What will coach philreich do? Where will GremioPower play this week?

Stay tuned!

Round 1 Action:

I have played in quarters 1, 2, and 4; in three different positions (HBF, CHB, FP). I was involved in a fast exchange of handballs, and I kicked forward to the wing (Q1); I engaged in a hard-fought contest in the middle (Q2); and I had a score involvement (Q4). If in Q4 The acurate one had my measure, he can have it as much as he wants:
1 : 3.42 - <<< GremioPower is coming on to replace MannumPower >>>
1 : 3.5 {CHB} - jackster83 looking for a lead.

There is a GremioPower pocket at the Underground. If there isn't, there should be. The Atom Ant is really at home in FP. Playing away against the Furies, the Brazilian came from the bench to lead the Rats offense with 4 goals. In Q3, after his 3rd major, MightyHawks86 and Mister M double-teamed him. It was the only way to stop GremioPower, who would kick another six-pointer in the last frame.

Despite his strong showing down the field, GP ended the match in defense. To say that he struggled would be an understatement. Questioned about the move, philreich just said that the attempt of a comeback had failed at that point, and his main concern was stopping the leak. It didn't work as expected. Comments around Sin City is that the fan favourite will be put in the FP from the start against the Hawks (1-1, 5th) in front of the Rats faithful.

What will philreich do? Can the Rats finally win in S30? Will GremioPower be able to retribute the support from the fans? How will the Hawks play against the stuggling #ReigningPremiers?

Stay tuned!
