The grammar nazi thread

When I was a kid I chimed in on a conversation between my father and uncle where they were talking about something ricocheting.

Next thing I asked them was, "is Rick O'Shea a player?"

I'm still waiting for someone to do this in written form. The circle will be complete if it ever happens!

These seem to be happening more and more often.

For one in particular, it comes up with astounding regularity and consistency.

Lose and loose!

So to clear things up.

Some people wear loose fitting pants

You can win or lose a bet

Your team can be losing

But loosing is not a word!

I feel better now! Thanks
Better Losen Up ?

His instead of he's. I had no idea that this was something people could get wrong but, clearly, I've underestimated the stupidity of society.
Quite easy to believe in my opinion. 7% of the USA believe chocolate milk comes from brown cows.

I see whose and who’s mixed up a lot.

This thread makes me rage in a primal way, which is quite ironic.

Obviously incorrect grammar shits me, but there's a different aspect of speech that people regularly stuff up that is even worse, relating to the meaning of words.

An easy example is the flagrant misuse of 'everyone' when speaking in generalities, or "XYZ is really common" when its statistical significance is somewhere in the vicinity of 10%. That's not ****ing common.

Language is so important. It's the foundations of civilization, yet we treat it like a play thing or weird uncle that we just have to endure each Christmas. The importance of accurate and deliberate communication can't be understated!
