Maybe not last rites. No Lyon makes things a bit more interesting

most of the wickets were shit cricket shots, claiming it was a spicy wicket is deflection. Really poor shot selectionWell that was like being at an Essendon game.
Aus in a world of trouble post this era of batsAustralia.
Can bowl.
Can’t bat.
The feeling at the end was still the same.tbf if more of our games were 50/50 crap shoots, the last 20 years would have been a lot easier to live through
Not just an Australian thing. Batting in world cricket is nowhere near what it was.Aus in a world of trouble post this era of bats
Who gets to the 2027 Ashes, what does the XI even look like in 18 months?
In a press conference he said they felt they needed to leave more grass on it because of the heat forecast on days 3 & 4, they thought if it didn't have enough grass it would end up a roadYeah atrocious deck. It would have got worse if the game somehow went into tomorrow because all those indentations would have hardened up and movement would have become more exaggerated.
Then you get into calling the game off territory.
The reality is it’s an inexact science, there must’ve been a reason they went 10mm instead of 8mm of last year because that was a fantastic test on a fantastic strip. Weather has been dogshit, AC/DC, there had to have been a reason they thought they needed to keep more grass on it to keep it together.
Imagine Hazlewood and Cummins on that deck, I was actually disappointed we didn’t roll them for 60 in the first dig.

Australia should have played a spinner
A) because we need to be getting games into the next spinner to replace Lyon
B) our attack looked a bit ‘samey’ with a bunch of right arm guys bowling 135kmh
The MCG was simply a lottery. It would seem the series being won in record time and everything else being rendered moot has emboldened the Poms a great deal. No stakes.
At the same time, the pressure to bury these self important absolute ****ing muppets 5-0 to avoid getting a disappointed dad dressing down from Ricky Ponting has got to us, again, a great deal.
A strange summer. The cosmic ballet continues.
lyon was totally out of left field and had hardly showed promise at shield level. Is the issues with spin more a sign that they are an average bunch?
Couple of them have done okay in the sub continent but in general they have just been average in shield cricket.
If we had someone who showed a bit more promise I suspect they would have played.
Problem is there are no spin friendly wickets here now.
SCG has not been a spin wicket for over 5 years.
We virtually have to have a Lyon quality spinner or better for them to get a game. Even Morse so with the green wickets we are preparing.
