there's been a lot of talk in recent weeks about how we lack a quality running midfielder ... i mean, apart from goodes, but goodes is obviously injured and will miss a few weeks
we have the grunt players in kirk, j bolton and ablett
mcveigh isn't a grunt player, but he doesn't play like a line-breaking runner, and malceski is another who's potential as a running midfield option has been cruelled by injury

which brings me to young kieren jack
this bloke has played mostly defensive, tagging type roles, but since preseason this year has struck me as a possible midfield runner
he is very quick and has brilliant foot skills, can deliver a pass 40m through traffic at speed
he's obviously a different type of player to goodes, so it's not actually a direct substitute but i'd just love to see jack get a more creative, attacking role

and what have we got to lose anyway?

It wont happen unless we can find another tagger as currently Jack performs a important function which we cannot go without.

his decision making isn't great and i think as the year wears on his finding it harder

his decision making???? geez, i'd be looking at about a dozen far more senior blokes and asking them about THEIR decision making before i got to jack
he's not being set much of an example

Thats not a bad idea. He has been thrust into this tagging role, and does a great job. But he is fast, agree good footskills, and if given the chance to become an attacking midfielder,he could become a gun, without the shackles
associated with being a tagger.

IN the after match when we drew with North,Roos said Jack will not be playing tagging roles in the next few weeks,he said IT IS NOT GOOD FOR HIS DEVELOPMENT AS A AFL PLAYER.
From is background he has got good skills, let him run

Strange thing to say. I would say in an AFL midfielders first year, it is a great idea to have him run with some of the best.

Not only does he pick up defensive skill, but also learns from the best on where to run to get the footy.

Agreed, but at some stage, give him a sight of the goals. Free him from his tagging role, and give him a shot at the goals. He has pace to burn, and would
relish the challenge of being the one who was tagged.

I would say for this year, let him finish his apprenticeship. Next year we can bring another guy through to do his role, and we can release him.
