Are we all jumping to conclusions? Sure, the photo doesn’t paint a good picture, but we have no idea if Marra is only having a couple, half strength perhaps?? Is a couple of drinks in a Friday night a big deal? I’d say most players would have a beer or two on a Friday or a Saturday. Would have close to zero impact on performance the next day or the following - would have to be half tanked with little sleep to severely impact performance.
The bigger issue is that he's posting it to social media

A couple of questions, is this a recent photo on his Instagram account or was it posted elsewhere?

Does anyone recognise the other people in the photo?
It's a photo of a bloke having a birthday lunch with mates. Yes he seems to have some real challenges and we'd much prefer him to be at training, but this is turning into a bit of a ridiculous witch hunt poring through every aspect of his private life. I actually know a couple of people in the photo, they aren't drug dealers, bikies or thugs. They're good people, small business owners having a crack at life. What a mess this has turned into.

Guys, it’s ok, it’s his birthday! Totally acceptable behaviour of a professional athlete. Actually can’t believe some people are defending him. I couldn’t imagine being the team mate of a bloke who’d rather get pissed with drop kicks than do his job with his team.

All good. Lemonade and vapes 😁👍
Wait...wheres that guy at the back got his hands this time? 🤔

No more of the toxic posting on this thread. You can express your views without being a complete dickhead about it.

They seem like a great influence on Marra 🤦‍♀️

This doesn’t have a good ending coming up.

Yes a lot of players might have a drink or attend a function or have something for their birthday, but they don’t list all over their socials about it.

Your absolute elite players barely drink within season or when injured etc and never post about drinking. Most organise their birthday things post the weekends game.

You have a guy here refusing to listen to anyone, having a party life and unfortunately our club and our membership money is helping to fund it.

Either Jamarra will wake up to himself when he gets traded and the other club doesn’t put up with it or he gets delisted cause no one will take him. Or if that doesn’t wake him up when he runs dry of cash and all the guys hanging on the party animal cash cow disappear because he’s no value to them anymore he will wake up to himself but be in a very dark and lonely place.

Come on.

Yes ye could certainly behave better but there is a lot of guesswork here. Acting like there isn't a culture of drinking etc amongst football players. I'd have some stories for you. 😏

Never said there isn’t a culture of drinking. Said the absolute elite generally don’t.

What I said was plenty do drink and attend functions, club etc. what don’t do is they don’t post about it in season all over their socials.

Jamarra is listening to no body and is posting constantly about his drinking and acting like a drunk 15 year old. Don’t need guess work for that.

Am I guessing on the outcome. Yeah probably to a degree but given I’ve worked with youth footballers most of my life and a lot of troubled kids and seen where some of it ends up, it’s not hard to make a educated guess where this ends up. The money and limelight of AFL only exacerbates these issues.

Has the Jamarra debacle put pressure on Naughton to play coming off glandular fever? Would Naughts have rested this part of the season to get himself right? But he feels he has to play because Jamarra isn’t there? List spots are very limited and important and we are wasting one with a fella who doesn’t know what he wants to do but is still getting paid.

This is the biggest issue, because the rest is football culture.

I don't imagine his mates will be encouraging him to change anytime soon. After all, he'll be buying the drinks.

Anywho, all things come to an end eventually. And then you're just a coulda, shoulda, woulda been with parasitic mates and nothing to show for it.

I think the important thing from the club's and supporters view is to just sink the cost. You'll tie yourself in knots with what ifs if you don't.

For me, the important part in all this is the due diligence that went into his recruitment in the first place. Same with Smith. I couldn't GAF about whether or not this pundit or that pundit rated him highly in the draft on talent at age group level.

Unlike horses, they can talk. And you can talk to people who know them and/or their families and backgrounds.

The top 2 inches is where elite sport is won or lost and that's not exclusive to gameday. It encompasses training, preparation, injury recovery.....application.

Smith came into the draft as one of the most professional and ready kids around

Was weighing every piece of food he had in high school and a over training himself in an attempt to get the best results

One man's professional is another's neurotic.

That had red flags all over it.

The other important thing in all this is that when these people come up in the draft, having done our due diligence, we pass. And then Geelong, or Hawthorn or Essendon or Carlton select them and deal with all the sh1t and wasted opportunity.

Surely that's something we all want.

I may have mentioned this before, and whilst it doesn't do us much good right now, but 2 in 2 years!...the worst that could happen is that we didn't learn from it.

In the meantime, sink the cost, expunge the error and move on ... fast.

We actually really need JUH at the moment. What a shame
We are absolutely missing him. Hope he gets back soon. Darcy needs the help. Someone else capable of winning a game.

I don't think we're missing him heck all.

We're missing Bont. We're missing decision making and execution going I50. And organisation defensively in the middle.
