For mine Kersten just shows far better aggression and intent at the contest and looks like a more likely type. ffs Taberner has played a heap of games for us, a team desperate for forwards and for the most part been mediocre to poor with the odd good game thrown in. It's someone's else's chance for the moment and unless you are related to the guy or something I don't get why anyone would want to shoehorn him into the side at the moment.

Kerstern is more agile below his knee show by how he pick up the ball and score the winning goal . I doubt if tab can even go near the ball to pick it up if the situation or chances fall to him .

I thought Kersten did very well in the Melbourne game and obviously kicked the winner on the weekend. But still a way to go before I'll be comfortable saying he's made it.

Apart from his goal I thought he had a fairly poor game..... but I thought alot of our players were poor.

Taking nothing away from him, he was there when it counted.

This thread is confusing. Tabs and Kersten are not like for like they are different players, and wouldn't see them as competing for the same spot.

Kersten does show good aggression and intent but the facts remain that at the moment he is struggling to impose himself on games and hasn't had a big impact. I do hope that he becomes a gun.

Was going to post this in the Kersten thread...

Apart from Kersten kicking the winning goal he also assisted 2 others last weekend and had 4 inside 50s. Was involved in 6 scores total which is about what you want from a forward in a low scoring game like it was. He also laid 4 tackles but only 10 pressure acts recorded.

Comparing him to McCarthy's output. Also 1 goal, 0 assists, 4 inside 50s, 7 score involvements, 1 tackle and 17 pressure acts.

I don't think any of our forwards are killing it yet but it's a brand new forward line. I like that it is very fast, that every player is capable of forward pressure, and that it is highly mobile - McCarthy and Kersten have been doing some good work further down field. Although it is far from the best forward line I just don't see any upside in changing it atm. It's got us over the line two weeks in a row now and you can just tell it has so much more potential than what it has shown so far.

I agree, am not advocating changing the team. I responded to a post suggesting Tabs should never play for Freo again which I don't agree with or understand.
Never said never until he is not on freo list anymore. Injuries to players is quite common in AfL . If freo plan for Johnson and Sandi to play final , rest is needed for both of them , they already lesser their load in training now .

I agree with you that Taberner still has something to offer. If he gets a run at it at Peel and becomes consistently dominant, I look forward to him getting another opportunity,
The thing is though, you suggested Kersten wasn't contributing as a forward. I know one of the idiot commentators mentioned something like that in the last two minutes of the weekends game, but it wasn't true. And you don't even need to watch the whole game to see Kersten's influence: watch the highlights and see how many times he turns up in the frame. Can Kersten do better? Yes. Has he done enough to be safe in his position? Yes.

Another silly criticism of Tabs who is very good below his knees for a tall forward and has bagged a number of very good goals with clever kicks from the boundary line.

The knock on Tabs is on his marking. Making up things about him that aren't true hurt your argument.

I wouldn't say he isn't contributing, but neither is he setting the world on fire, and I am not really convinced he's obviously better than Taberner.

Interesting. What do you think he's shown? I do hope Kersten works out, but as it stands currently he's not really contributing.

I certainly hope that Tabs opportunity isn't limited to Kersten coming out. I want to see Tabs play deep with Kersten and Mcarthy leading up. I still think Tabs can make it as an AFL player.
why tabs deep? the only time hes really ever involved is when he is halfway up the wing

That goal said a lot that he is not good below his knee when the ball is not under his control, the first bounce over his head he control it with a tap to his right and score .does it deserve goal nomination ? Of course , he is smart to tap it sideway knowing opponent is closing in.

He will come in , if logue is fatigue due to limited pre season or injuries to cam mac or kersten with his improve ruck work in wafl . All three show a lot interm of teamwork in their first year for freo . lot of improvement to come.

If you can show me afl/wafl clip that tab pick the ball on the ground and score you won this argument . can't compare apple with orange.

I agree with this. But it is up to Taberner to show he is obviously better than Kersten, if he is to displace him. Taberner could also push out another player by the end of the season.

Funnily enough it didn't work the other way around though. Kersten was horrible in the preseason matches but still displaced Taberner.

In any case, Taberner is obviously a better forward than Griffin Logue who is playing there at the moment. If Lyon can't find anywhere better to play Logue then that's who Taberner will displace. You can't kick the ball like Logue did last week and expect to play in the forward line for very long.

Hell devil ,logue in his first year afl football , kersten got intterupted pre season and cam Mac missing a year of football. All score goal and provide assists in a team sports four match into the season .

Im with you man, I was looking back at Tabs when Kersten looked like an absolute train wreck but hes stabilized and I hope the club is looking towards another key forward in the draft or Trade and maybe cutting Tabs and Apeness (only if his body isnt up for it) loose at the end of the season.

Christ almighty Taberner has played 45 games for FFC. And done jack all in a lot of them.

Done jack, much as Shane Kersten and Darcy Moore and half the other developing young tall KPFs in the AFL.........

Never let the facts get in the way of a popular BF negative narrative. Putting Taberner in the current Dockers side with the run and quick ball movement we're getting off half back and out of the midfield and he'll average 2+ goals per game IMO.

I think both Grey and Crozier have shown that guys who've struggled to make an impact in the past can come good. We shouldn't be writing players off who are under 25 and have shown a bit (or quite a bit, depending on what we look for and see).
