I can't believe that Kersten article is still pinned at the top of the AFL website.

The AFL and by attachment their media department should primarily represent the clubs that own them. Yet they've run with a murky, shallow account of a player dispute that was fed to them by a player manager, who represents a player who was remarkably lucky to be given a three year deal in the first place when his playing level is probably adequate at NEAFL. The AFL website is pushing this to add to the growing theme that the club is toxic and bordering on incompetence, when all this Kersten situation is, is aggressive list management to save a star player by pushing out a log on a bad contract.

It would have been great to have seen the same amount of journalistic commitment shown to Shane Yarran being extorted out of the game by WA Police to the ultimate conclusion of his suicide.

Psych at my work likened the media campaign to murderous whispers in the ears of a paranoid schizophrenic, getting louder and louder before something snaps.

It almost transcends having a viewpoint, you just sit back in amazement and see an AFL post pinned to the top of the news wall, an influential player manager breaking rank and publicly criticizing the club he manages players in, the AFL media from David King, Hasleby to Matty Lloyd demanding Ross go plus all the usual volatility displayed by seven West and independent journalists.

It's a spectacle I'll admit to having never witnessed in my life, even after the Harvey sacking which was big but didn't have the same build up.

I will say that if the club made positive changes and became competitive next year then Ross truly is no mere mortal and can achieve the unachievable - because at present all signs point to destruction.

Not saying he is right or wrong but you would have to think being in his position, that he should know what’s going on around the place.
Not saying he has actually said it or not of course.

Unfortunately he controls a significant number of players and he's probably got a valid point.

Of course he has a point. Most people can recognize our injury management needs a significant improvement. It's still ridiculous that a player agent feels his opinion carries enough weight to warrant a public comment of this nature.

It just adds to the increasing absurdity of the media coverage surrounding the club atm. I don't have much confidence in Ross and have one foot in the Lyon out camp, but he's been a good servant to Fremantle and isn't deserving of the smear campaign being driven against him.

Fremantle has defended the level of care they provide injured players after leading player agent Colin Young called for an immediate review of the club’s injury management programs.
Young, who has handled the release from the club of injured utility Shane Kersten this week, declared the Dockers were “going nowhere” until they made changes to the way they rehabilitate injured players.
Fremantle said they respected the views of Young, who manages a large group of Dockers players, but it was important to reinforce that the club was “committed to looking after our players and their health and welfare on and off the field”.
“Injury management is a vital component of providing that support and it is a very important area of our club,” football manager Peter Bell said in a statement.
“We have highly experienced, capable and committed professionals with input, when required, from local, national and, at times, international specialists and experts in their field.
“Part of their important role is to mitigate the impact of an injury a player incurs when playing or training and we are always looking to enhance and improve our operations.”

Kersten will leave the Dockers this week amid “serious concerns” from Young about how his foot injury was managed by the club.
The 26-year-old underwent surgery in late March after the club had attempted unsuccessfully to improve his condition without surgery.
He was initially expected to spend 10 weeks on the sidelines but has not played at AFL or WAFL level this season. Kersten was recently told he would not be offered a contract for 2020.
“In every instance when a player is injured, the circumstances surrounding the injury and the ensuing treatment and rehabilitation program are thoroughly and extensively reviewed, as was the case with the injury that Shane suffered to his plantar fascia earlier this year,” Bell said.
“We want every player who comes to this club to be successful and play as many games as possible.
“Despite Shane not being able to play in 2019, we are confident with how the injury was managed, treated and reviewed, and that the club has done everything possible to support Shane with our player welfare services.”
The Dockers said they had today agreed with Kersten and his management on a deed of settlement to release him from his playing contract.
Young said the former Geelong forward would continue his rehabilitation elsewhere.
Kersten was recruited to the Dockers from Geelong ahead of the 2017 season and played 29 games for the club. He was due to come out of contract at the end of this season.
Bell said he wished the WA product all the best for the future and thanked him for his contribution to the club.

Awful lot of new posters. Hmmmm.

I'm sure the same can be said about "bandwagoners" when things were going well, I mean a person could look at your join date of April 16 2014 and think that's interesting timing coming off a Grand Final and being 3-1 at the time. Can't we just have a debate with the argument presented without resorting to "troll account" "must be an Eagles fan" type responses?

We supposedly had a review of the S&C last year but still making the same mistakes with Bennell ticking all the KPI's you can think of and not getting an AFL game (sliding doors for me wondering if he wound have injured or not in AFL) and Shilly ticking none and going straight back to AFL after re injuring his quad and going out six different times last year. Both managed by Young and same ole same ole. This may not be S&C but orders from further up, would be interesting to know.

Plus starting season with significant injuries, constantly playing injured players, unable to diagnose and rehab Hogan knowing he comes with tricky naviculiky.

So what changed with the review? Nothing I'd say and whether Young is a dick or not, nothing else will happen if nothing is done.

wonder what crap will be written tomorrow - surly nissbit will be calling the editor of the west to say fairs fair can we have a few headlines for the rest of the week...

Ashes just started and we are already down. Even if Channel 7 sack Ross overnight, still won't make the front or back pages.

The only improvement that I can see this year from past is we got through the bye unscathed and came out on song following it.

I found it a touch interesting that in the video of Ross announcing Carters debut that Webber was in the thick of it shoulder to shoulder with Ross.

That's interesting because for a lot of the decisions whether the players get dosed up with injections, play injured and the KPI's they have to achieve (or not) in WAFL must come from above Webber in my opinion.

Just watched Brereton on 360 say (paraphrased) that WA media, AKA ‘WCE media’ is stirring up sh!t because they get a rise out of watching Freo suffer. Just gained the smallest bit of respect for Dermie for calling it out!

I'd love to see Freo put that AFL360 clip on their website.

I reckon Dermy is onto something..

How about this theory:

Nisbett goes to 7 west media and tells them he's worried they won't be able to get Tim Kelly and Freo might be in the hunt. Asks them that if freo start losing a few games in a row can you go hard at freo and Lyon in the hope it spooks Kelly to take what will have to be a low ball $$ offer from us...

Dermy is sure right about WA being eagles centric. Tune into east coast media and they actually say freo were on right track before injuries to key players and has a much better year than last year (not many blowouts, in a lot of games right to the end) - since when has any of our WA media been able to point out those facts?

Wouldn't it be nice if Kelly sees thru the bullshit and decides to go with the larger $ he'll be able to get from Freo. he'd be a nice IN if we lost B.Hill and Langdon
