So the ex Hawthorn boys we have aren't to your liking. I would have thought learning the ropes under your wonder boy Clarkson would make them perfect for the job.

Did they coach under Clarko though, if memory serves me correct Hale came straight from the field to his role.

I don't know anything about Rocks coaching career prior to landing with us.

Scott Waters taking a dig at our club. Lol are you even relevant anymore Scotty?

While on the subject of this nitwit I was unfortunate enough to catch Footy WA on CH 9 a couple of weeks ago for the first time this year. Wat a mistake that was!

There was no Chris Connelly on the panel so it was just those 2 other flogs Waters & Cummings. Waters was playing the devils advocate by pretending to get behind the dockers at times to give the show some balance so it didn't turn it into another version of Eagle Eye TV . Man he's so fake trying to get behind us. It must of been sooooo hard for him to not lay into us for a change. Absolute flog.

I know Chris Connely was a douche at times but at least he genuinely flew the flag.

I have no idea but Karl Langdon and Hardie seem to take a lot of joy in being jerks when they are calling our games as well.

Yeah there not alone there. Is there a genuine claim Rosco snubbing 6PR for radio interviews is enough of a sticking point with the station in general?

Hardie has hated the Dockers since day one. I suspect he thought that being a South Fremantle boy (and a Brownlow medallist of course), he would have been consulted when the club was established. My recollection is that he wasn't and that he's been bitter and twisted ever since.

I don't think he had a particularly cordial relationship with Neesham which probably didn't help.

Hardie would only like the Dockers if his boy Sumich took over and then they asked him to be a consultant or assistant to the team, he is a bitter and twisted hack journalist with a personal axe to grind for some reason against our team.

And then Hardie writes crap about "That assumes blokes actually want to come here and play for Lyon - my mail is that some player managers with big stables are advising their clients to do just the opposite", let's hear some names or some facts!!!! The bottom line is we have never been able to attract high quality recruits in their prime from the East, no matter who was the coach, CEO, etc. Players like Modra, Croad, Tarrant were basically no longer wanted.

Hardie is just pandering to his readership imo. Like it or not West Coast dominate this state and they love reading shit like this and since Freo fans don't offer enough by way of opposition/outcry he has free reign to turdmonger

It sucks but you know what you're getting so it's better to just ignore those articles.

Melbourne great Garry Lyon has launched a scathing attack on Fremantle’s tactical approach during yesterday’s 77-point shellacking from reigning premiers Richmond at the MCG.
The Dockers played a loose man in defence for most of the first half, making it difficult for their remaining forwards to take advantage of the stoppage dominance generated by Aaron Sandilands, Nat Fyfe and Lachie Neale.
It also made it easier for Tigers defenders – especially premiership quartet Dylan Grimes, David Astbury, Nick Vlaustuin and Alex Rance – to repel opposition raids.

Fremantle trailed by 44 points at half-time before changing their approach and trimming it back to four goals.
Lyon, who said Fremantle should not be considered a finals contender at this stage, was unimpressed with Dockers coach Ross Lyon’s defensive mindset.
“In the first half, they won the clearance count 23 to eight, Fremantle. They won the centre bounce clearances six to one, yet they played five players in front of the footy,” Garry Lyon said on his SEN Breakfast radio show.
“So what they’re doing is winning at stoppages, kicking the footy long and there was Richmond’s backline just marking the ball at will.
“Then simplistically at half-time they said well we can’t do that, let’s even the numbers up and at three quarter time they got it back to 26 points.

“Then they just got overwhelmed as Richmond did what they always do and just blew them out of the water.
“Why play five forwards against the best defence in the competition when you’re winning clearances?”
Lyon also took aim at assistant coaches at teams, like Fremantle, who are under pressure.
“The job justification going on in the coaching ranks is just off the charts, that’s what’s going on,” Lyon said.
“Ross Lyon or one of his 15 assistants, the same as Alan Richardson and one of his 15 assistants, John Worsfold and one of his 16.
“I’ve taken about 45 coaches down, you don’t just point the finger at Lyon, Richardson or Worsfold, they’ve got about seven off-siders sitting there, what do you reckon they’re doing, twiddling their thumbs?”

Garry Lyon taking a shot at us and I for one think he is spot on.

We haven't been playing a traditional 7 man defense this season, we have been having a player coming off the back of the square, I was working on Sunday so have only seen a couple quarters of the game so far but can anyone confirm that we were playing a loose defender and not just playing our extra forward as someone charging in from the square?

It's quite a different tactic to the one that Lyon is suggesting, we have been opening up the forward line for McCarthy to lead into whilst giving some spread across the ground when we win the clearances which has worked well with opening up our wider ground sideways, its fair enough to say it wasn't working this game however it has been working in the past games and isn't inherently a "defensive" tactic.

The defensive mindset of starting the game with 5 forwards is a point I made repeatedly last year. That's why I have lot of sympathy for our forwards, because they're often playing the game with one hand tied behind their backs. It's one of the reasons why I have been far less critical of Matt Taberner than other posters have been over the years. When you have one of the best ruckman the game has ever seen, and a brute of a midfield, it's just crazy to start the game with only five forwards. It's especially ineffective when we still concede a lot of scores.

Yeah but why all the talk about it now?Playing the loose man in defense like previously stated has been happening since last year.
Sounds like beat up on Freo is flavour of the month even though the team is full of youngsters playing the top team on their own deck. Its not even a story. Its just media beat-up.

Ahhhhh Garry Lyon the man who once helped coach the International Rules team. Taking coaching advice from Gary Lyon is like hiring a virgin as a sex therapist.

“I’ve taken about 45 coaches down, you don’t just point the finger at Lyon, Richardson or Worsfold, they’ve got about seven off-siders sitting there, what do you reckon they’re doing, twiddling their thumbs?”

Another way of wording this is I'm wise after the event and I don't have the cojones to become a coach therefore nobody gets the chance to take potshots at me.

He's an A grade turd.

When it comes to most disliked media personalities it astonishes me how little he is mentioned.

Watters and Neeld were failures as senior coaches but at least they can say they had a go at it. GLyon has never had a senior gig yet is a self appointed expert on coaching.

Not to mention his hypocrisy of asking people to respect his own privacy (re Brownless missus), yet he is perfectly happy to speculate and offer his opinions on others personal affairs on his radio gig.

He's an absolute grub.
