We do have a poor attack. It starts at the clearances. We lost at least three games this year because of a run on out of the stoppages that resulted in easy scores for them.

If we control the ball out of the middle we win. Our defense will pick up the turnovers. Win the stoppages, win the game. That's how it will work for us. Starts with Sean Darcy

Happy to be optimistic but that forward line isn't making any opposition defences lose sleep. One of our biggest problems was getting it in there often enough as well, and that is something we should be much better at next season as our midfield and transition game develops.

Agree with everything else in your post but I don't think we can play all of Fyfe, Tabs, Cox and Lobb in our forward line. It is just too slow, especially when the smalls you've picked aren't particularly quick either.

I think we play two of Tabs/Lobb/Cox/Treacy in our forward line throughout the year knowing Fyfe will rotate in a lot. Tabs the only one of those who is an automatic pick based on last season's performance (as a forward). Lobb needs to prove himself in preseason to secure his spot. Cox really deserves to be in our B22 but I don't think you can throw him forward just to fit him in. Treacy should be made to feel he can earn a debut early as well.

Treat Fyfe as an 8th forward in the 22 because he will rotate through the midfield. Walters is the only other automatic pick although if he plays for frees in the early games I'd send a clear message and sideline him. Love the guy but he has to cut that crap out of his game.

I actually have Sturt as the 4th picked (after Fyfe, Tabs, Walters). We need someone with his speed and size in our forward line almost as much as anyone else. The backup for his spot is probably Banfield - so not exactly inspiring. Crossing fingers Sam can get his body right finally.

That then leaves 3 spots for small forwards picked from Henry/Freddy/Schultz/Crowden/Switta/Western. Henry brings skills. Freddy and Western bring speed. Schultz, Crowden and Switta bring pressure. Each of them has pros and cons ranging from future potential, versatility (eg wing), already solid role player etc and I wouldn't personally lock any of them in until just before round 1. Let each of them earn their spot in the 22 because none of them deserves anything close to auto inclusion imo.

I'm crossing my fingers Henry steps up and is clear B22 by the end of 2021. I'd love either or both of Freddy and Western to step up as well because their speed could be a massive weapon for us - something we've been missing forward of centre for forever.

I've mentioned this before: If the wet weather had been suppressing our relative attacking prowess then our attacking rating would have self corrected in the footy models once we were in the dry again. It didn't.
Our attacking rating reached its lowest point immediately before the North thrashing, well after we came out of our run of wet matches.

It seems to me the reason for a drop in scoring came when we lost 3-4 games we could have won if not for conceding multiple goals within 4-5 min periods of those games.

After that happened JLo tightened the screws on careful ball movement out of defence giving opposition plenty of time to set up defensively.

It's kind of true if you squint your eyes and tilt your head to the side, but it's so oversimplified as to appear Duffield hasn't quite understood how trades work. Particularly the McCarthy trade.

Pick 3 was traded to GWS for
Cam McCarthy,
pick 7, which we used on Griffin Logue (which Duffield has indicated as a separate deal for pick 8),
pick 34 -which was involved in the trade for Joel Hamling (other picks involved), then made it's way to GCS (28 & 80 for 35 & 43), then back to us in another pick swap, which was ultimately used on Sean Darcy. The Hamling trade also included pick 40, which became pick 41 at the draft and was used to select Brennan Cox
pick 72- which was used in another pick swap with GCS which we used on Luke Ryan

I think in the interests of accuracy, we should also acknowledge that the Hogan deal also included pick 65 (Brett Bewley) and returned pick 54, which went through live trades with Collingwood and popped out as a match bid on Joel Western.

Obviously, the average Joe doesn't want to decipher all that, so Duffield has cut to the chase.

But, if Duffield was interested in accuracy, and wanted to use the picks involved in the Hogan, McCarthy and Kersten trade, he should also include: Logue, Hamling, Darcy, Cox, Ryan, Bewley and Western.

Haven’t made finals in Past 5 years, amongst oldest of the non Victorians. We’re on the bottom of AFL exposure’s wish list.
GWS Gold Coast, Melbourne, Sydney are AFL’s priority in order to obtain maximum value.
When we’re good, like in 2012-2015, AFL world cares. But when we’re bad, it’s a non factor.

Club has said in the past that we prefer the Saturday games. Whether or not we make more money I don't know.

Even if it is worth more, I'd still prefer Saturday or Sunday even but that's just my preference.

The clubs that appear on Friday night isn’t all about the AFL administration. It’s also about ratings for Channel 7. I think it is fair to say we don’t increase TV ratings.

Prime time games get beamed free to air into every state. The advertising revenue that can be made from hosting a Friday night fixture is significant. Not to mention the boost in awareness and interest.
The majority of east coast based football viewers watch Freo once or twice a year when their team plays us. There is a poll on the main board about who is the best defender in the comp and Luke Ryan isn’t even an option. Most people would be like ‘oh yeah Flyin Ryan is great but he’s not a defender’...
The silver lining is that we can fly under the radar with minimal external expectations next season.

Fans generally find going to the game on Friday night quite a hassle compared to any other time on a Saturday or Sunday.

It helps the club get exposure to the football viewing public if they can get games in those prime time slots. All clubs seem keen to get stand alone fixtures like Thurdsay, Friday, Easter and Anzac day so it's fair to assume it's beneficial to a reasonable degree.

Those two things seem quite straightforward until the BS factory at AFL house get hold of them and it becomes a fairy tale about being "good enought" to earn the right to play on Friday night.

Then it gets changed to Carlton are an "exciting" team on the up and we are all bored to death with multiple Carton floggings on Friday nights until people give up watching FNF.

All clubs should be treated equally and if it's qualification by where your club stands then stick to that. But being the AFL the chances of having a transparent process are virtually impossible.
