Adam Cerra ‘highly likely’ to come home
Victorian clubs – two in particular – are circling Fremantle young gun Adam Cerra, but the man himself remains adamant he won’t be rushed into making a decision on his footy future.

Senior foxfooty.com.au writer Tom Morris reported on Tuesday that Fremantle had offered Cerra a four-year deal worth around $750,000 per season.

Morris said Cerra’s decision was about location, rather than money, adding there was a big lure from loved ones to return to Victoria.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast on Wednesday morning, reporter Sam Edmund said rival clubs had told him Cerra was “highly, highly likely to come home to Victoria”, with Carlton and Essendon the clubs that would show the most interest.

Cerra, who’s played 64 games for Fremantle since being taken with Pick 5 in the 2017 draft, told ABC Sport on Sunday that he’d “get to that stuff (contract negotiations) later in the year”.

But when asked if he had a sense of where he wanted to be, Cerra told ABC Sport: “I haven’t got an exact answer for you at the moment.

“I’m loving playing for this group. We’re young and exciting, and I’ve got really tight, close mates here.

“I’m just trying to enjoy it week by week and win games.”

Agree 100% with this Duff... seems he's as sick and tired of the highly vocal whinging supporters as I am. (no paywall)

Mundy has played in more wins than losses.

Cool.

How many times has he made finals? How many Preliminary finals? How many Grand Finals.

We should absolutely expect better than we have received in our 25 year history. But nah, let's just be happy being middle of the road.

We're all annoyed - for all those reasons you mention. But it is the application of that to absolutely every decision and thing the club does that is way OTT.

We are 10th on the ladder from 3 home games and 6 away games. If not for ultra shit goal kicking we'd be 8th or 9th. That's where we are at. That's where anyone being logical pre-season would have had us after 9 rounds.

Not saying some of those performances weren't shit nor that we won't collapse from here with a hard draw ahead but right here and now we are sitting about where we should have expected to be. The reality is there is room to go in either direction for the rest of the season. Get an unexpected win or two and everything looks much better all of a sudden.

People get way too emotional over their footy team. If you were expecting us to be top 4 at this stage of the season then you're setting yourself up to be disappointed.

He's pandering.
He's a Freo supporter who works for the West. I expect he cops it all the time in his workplace, i.e. more than most of us. In a season that was meant to be an exciting move up the ladder with a young talented squad, the season is already cruelled by injuries to key players and youngsters. He's just frustrated like us and trying to be pragmatic. Fair enough from my end. Personally I always go the underdog (yeah, I don't bet on boxing) so WC/Freo comparisons just make me more loyal to Freo.

Richmond, Eagles and St Kilda supporters would have that covered at the moment in regards to expectations of performance being squashed.

If Duff was talking about this week, then I agree with you. If he’s talking about always, then I absolutely agree with Yeti.

I’m a big fan of Duff, and indeed your posts on here waytogo, but I’m sorry - that article is the biggest steaming pile of horse shit I’ve read in a while.
“Accept your place as a middle of the road club”
WTF like?? Is he having a laugh?!

“If you’re a Fremantle supporter, understand what you are and that will help your club,”

Why the hell should we accept anything less than the highest standards at our club? Give me one good reason why standards should be higher at West Coast than Freo?
We all get the same opportunity in the AFL to draft the same players and we all have to pay them the same amount of money.
This isn’t the EPL with Liverpool and Everton, where the big brother just spend more money and buy all the best players every year.

One of the worst takes I’ve read in a while - I reckon someone at the club told Duff to write something like this to placate the fanbase.
It’s absolute Nonsense.

Haven't read it but if he means our fans wildy overestimate us then I 100% agree.

There is no indicator that points to us being a clear finals side, which is exactly why we find ourselves in the pack jostling for 8th.

I had us bottom 6 at the start of the year.

My frustration stems from our clubs complete inability to build a list ready for finals. I think supporters of this club should feel a level of frustration how few finals appearances we have had in our history.

Frustration shouldn't drive your expectation though (as yours clearly hasn't). I think that is essentially Duff's point.

Sport is much more enjoyable when your expectations are in the ballpark of reality. Many, many AFL fans aren't.

Expectation is always adjusted to suit a new reality.

Think about your current lifestyle. Would you say it's uncomfortable, comfortable or luxurious? I'd guess that most would suggest they are comfortable or below because you're peppered with examples of people living lives far beyond your own means, you've seen what could be - your perspective is coloured by you looking forward and up at where you'd like to be.

We aren't wired to see where we could have been, or were. It's the only reason women have more than one child and don't decide to turn off the loving as soon as the first result of which does it's Alien routine on your dedicates.

Humans set our current existence to zero, no matter how good it gets, that's the new baseline.

We're not a basket case. We're not performing to expectations either. I think some heat if we fail to make finals this year and lose Cerra to Victoria will be more than justified.

Just to highlight. This isn't an article specifically written by Duffield. These are comments and observations made by Duffield in his podcast that has been turned into an article.

I get what he means but it's too defeatist for my liking. We shouldn't be expecting mediocrity and demand more. I LOVE that this board got so emotional after Sunday ('sack this person'; 'sack that person'). We're passionate and we all want success

I think it's reasonable in a competition like the AFL where things are roughly equitable (compared to the Premier League for example) for supporters of a team that has lacked tangible success to want for more than a veteran playing in more wins than losses over his career.

But I agree that the frustration and anger and the labeling of the club as a basketcase comes a lot from over-inflated expectations. We're by no means a rabble...poor time for a comparison but Essendon haven't won a final for close to 20 years and in that time have also managed to tarnish the sport on a global scale, yet because they have a distant history of success, Fremantle are more of a laughing stock.

Freo don't surprise me much because I don't expect a whole lot from the team atm. That's not accepting mediocrity, it's accepting the current state of the club. We're an ok side with potential to be good but also a chance of falling off another cliff depending on how things go. Ultimately the other fact is that we as supporters exert very little to no influence over the direction the club takes. We're merely along for the ride and can only really hope in vain that things line up and we get to see a premiership or two.

It's never as bad or as good as it seems #sackBell

I was surprised at the optimism pre-season, as I have been every year since the 2014 round 3 game against Hawthorn where I went to the MCG in the hope we'd atone for the previous year and instead we got murdered. Very apparent in that game that Lyon had wrung the best he could out of the side in 2012-13.

We simply don't have the talent and haven't for a long while. The club spent the latter half of Ross Lyon's contract in denial about where the list was at.

We have more Top 10 kids on our list than ever beforehand.
The list is ok, with need for improvement.
The problem is we haven't been able to play those good players together.
That will change, probably by next year.
Logue, Brayshaw, Serong, Cerra, Young, Chapman, Darcy, Henry, Fred all playing in the same team at the same time is plenty of talent.
Just need to get the mid range around this core, and the future will take care of itself
