Darcy has been prone to a brain fade here and there when going back into the goal square. If it was Darcy, he would've been down back supporting the defenders I have no doubt

Lol he does it every game though,it's not like that was the first time he has been caught out in no man's land while his direct opponent runs off him and impacts the game. While Nic Nat's weakness is his low game time to maximise impact, I'm not sure the interpretation that he wasn't working hard enough is the only one for that situation.
There were other tall defenders down there, and if the Kangas had kicked a point they could have booted it long down the middle to Nic Nat and the story might have been quite different.
At the end of the day I don't know if that's what he was doing, but it would have been a roll of the dice worth taking.
I truly enjoyed the Kangas knocking them off though [emoji4]
As I said that is one of the many instances it has happened. As much as it might be Naitanui's responsibility to man Goldstein, it's a team game and players often need to be bailed out by their teammates. There were 4 North players and 6 WC players in the vicinity, including Barrass and McGovern who completely botch their jobs and leave it up to Hurn against Goldstein and Larkey. McGovern was standing in no-man's land on nobody about 15m out and never got close to the contest. I'd put that goal on him more than Naitanui.
The selectors will probably work Nic Nat into the team as the second ruck on the basis of the magic "champion data player points" that completely ignore the fact that Nic Nat is too fat slow and old to leave the centre square, leading to instances like Goldstein winning the game for his team on Monday night while Nic Nat was 50 metres away from his direct opponent

Nup, Number 1 ruck must follow Number 1 ruck, in a defensive situation. If Goldstein was the resting ruck, then it is the defenders responsibility, otherwise he is the ruckman wandering into the forward line, and must be followed and manned up.
Look at it this way, the defenders already have 6 players to keep an eye on. When a ruck or rover wanders into this area, they need to be matched up on (hello, that means another ruck + rover), the defenders can’t be expected to watch the movements of 2 or 3 extra players.

Might be due to Nic's knee injuries too.Doesn't seem to be how it works at West Coast.
It's one thing to argue it's how it should be and having a ruck who's a beast at stoppages but does little around the ground is a liability, but in that case it's probably worth aiming at the West Coast coaching staff for setting up their game plan like that.
How so?Way too much NicNat chatter in this thread for my liking, can we get back to bitching about SUma instead please![]()
He is such a shallow observer, but I agree with the basics of this.Cornes
