Can anyone elaborate on the term "manufactured cricketer" for me?
Right now, England are the No 1 test nation. We have failed to adapt to their pitches and swing bowling in the last 2 series there.
The S.A bowling attack is a fine bowling attack but if my memory serves me correctly, they had not played a test in over 9 months. Philander was playing in his first series and Morkel is very up and down.
When he stands up to the English like Waugh did to the Windies in the mid 90's, like Border in the 89' Ashes series, then Clarke will be considered a great post war batsman. Right now, he is a manufactured cricketer who isn't at that level yet. Fair play to him today.

Funny you say that because last time Clarke played in England (2009) he managed 448 runs at an average of 64, with two centuries. But I guess that doesn't count because England weren't number one back then?

Jealousy... it is as simple as that. A cricketer who has hit 18 centuries... a triple century...averages nearly 50.....and Captain's his country is a damn good cricketer. Damn good. People are jealous of Michael Clarke and lot of them are hurting tonight.
We should manufacture some more of them.

Im not sure people take it quite this personally. Like someone said earlier, good innings and all that, but he's still a toss.
lulwut. Pretty sure it was a declaration in response to Hussey getting to 150.Taylor's declaration back in the 1990s was stupid and so was this one.
Why do they feel the need to suck Bradman's dick?
Ricky Ponting has a much better record than Clarke, and yet no one seems to be jealous of him.Jealousy... it is as simple as that. For those thinking Clarke has FINALLY stood up, please read a short summary and stats of each year since he begun. This guy will get to at least 30 100s and average 50+ when he is done.
2012 - Started the year with an unbeaten 300, can get 6 ducks in his next 6 innings and still be averaging 50 +
2011 - Averaged 38, looks average however was 2nd best behind hussey's 42, scored the most tonnes with 3. Since taking over captaincy score 3 tonnes in 3 series
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en..._career.html?class=1;id=2011;team=2;type=year
2010 - Not a great year, averaged only 36, still added 2 tonnes and 3 50s, not terrible
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en..._career.html?class=1;id=2010;team=2;type=year
2009 - over 1000 runs with 3 tonnes at a lazy 55
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en..._career.html?class=1;id=2009;team=2;type=year
2008 - over 1000 runs with 4 tonnes at a lazy 50
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en..._career.html?class=1;id=2008;team=2;type=year
2007 - Only 4 tests, but averaged 80 with a tonne and 2 50s
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en..._career.html?class=1;id=2007;team=2;type=year
2006 - Only 6 tests but averaged 71 with 2 tonnes
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en..._career.html?class=1;id=2006;team=2;type=year
2005 - an ordinary year that lead to his axing, see above as to how he responded once reinstated
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en..._career.html?class=1;id=2005;team=2;type=year
2004 - a young michael clarke averaging 50 with 2 tonnes in 8 tests

So was Warne. In fact, he was far more of a toss than Clarke has ever been. Warne was an embarrassing lout off the field who cheated on his wife, yet I'm perfectly confident in saying that the majority of people who criticse Clarke love 'Warney' (and no, I don't just mean Warne the cricketer).
Point being, what you think of them as a person is irrelevant to them as players, and some Clarke critics here seriously need to get over their dislike of him as an individual and concentrate on his cricket, which is going along quite nicely at the moment.
Warne the character is as much loved in this country as Warne the player.
