Good point. I wouldn't envision it being a problem, as some of those 8 would be gone in the next year or two.

If he does get the nod, he'll need to make some tough choices about good mates Reilly and Porplyzia.
IMO those aren't that tough. Porps is done and Reilly is as good as done.

Yes, but not for the right reasons. We're a laughing stock. Unless you're of the mind that bad publicity's better than none at all.

I actually disagree, the new CEO was well received, so a tick there for sure. The sacking of Sando was always going to be controversial, lets see how that pans out ie. with the new coach being announced, before laying the boots into our post season adventures.

Reilly should be finished, I cant be bothered about working how many players better than him, similarly Porps too, he would be ranked our 4th best small forward in any case.

Just realised the time it took to appoint Sando, and yet we think we'll have a coach in the next few days this time around??

Craigy resigned July 26, Sando was appointed mid september.
Time is of the essence though with trade week imminent

They've said they know who they want. They wouldn't have made the decision to sack Sando overnight and without weighing up the options

Thought Reilly and Porps would've been delisted with Angus Graham and McKernan. Unless, they'll 'retire' after the coach gets the nod and make it more of a 'romantic' send-off rather than a sacking. After the negative PR the club received about Sando this would make sense rather than a Malcolm Blight-esque culling.

See this is what I have honestly believed all along, that while the Sando sacking may have caught us all off-guard, there was a plan in place.

Here is one curly one, what if we had made the finals and knocked Port out in W1? ( I know there is the woulda, shoulda, coulda, but its interesting)

I think the board, wanting him gone, would have been in a bind

Reilly still has a year left, so you may as well dangle him and hope some team hasn't seen him play since 2012. Porps is a FA, so you just let him do his thing there.

As for the likes of Pets, LT, Martin etc, they could have some value somewhere, so keep them during trade period and cull them once that's all over if you don't have any buyers.

There is at least 3 players ahead of Pets - Betts, CC, Wright.

There is at least 3 players ahead of LJ - Tex, JJ, Lynch, Pods.

I would let Pets go, but I may give LJ another year personally. Lots of players can play small forward roles, but few players can play KPF.

Not sure Bassett will have any trouble dealing with the few former players on the list. As mentioned 2 at least are done in Reilly and Porps, Thommo has a year left and the others are DMac, VB and Dougy.

Tex, Pets, Otten, Rory, Danger and Brodie Martin were drafted the year he retired IIRC. Not too many hard decisions to be made there really, unless we try to trade Dougy ala Vince. The one query I have is whether his methods and culture changing ideas can work at this level. Only one way to find out and hopefully we get a good team around whoever it is.

Yea, I'm not advocating keeping him, but if there's some team that goes "Hey, how's about you throw in Petrenko with Lyons to get our 2nd round pick" then you go do it. Otherwise he goes into the delisted free agent pile after trade period.

Petrenko is signed for next year I believe. Maybe Bass (or whoever) could reinvent him and throw him down back. Would be better than Luke Brown!!

You're joking aren't you, Brown was barely beaten one on one and beat almost every small forward he played on. Just needs to attack more and he will be awesome. Petrenko is just plain crap!!!
