Pavlich had 11 goals in the first 9 weeks. That is NOT a great season. By any stretch.

And yet Emmelberry gets in with a second half that was modest by his own admission.

It's not a stupid award, it just happens to unfortunately be chosen by morons that make horrible decisions and diminish what it should be.

Nah, it's stupid. It's a representative ream that doesn't represent anything.

This is Dean Cox in the forward pocket. This is the premiership coach automatically being the best coach of the year.

This... is stupidity.

False modesty maybe - plus he missed 3-4 weeks?

Other than the North game, every week he had 29+ touches in the last 8 weeks of the season.

Could've gone either way without raising an eyebrow, but 'meh' sums it up - nothing wrong with having him in at all.

More kicks, handballs, marks (marks inside 50, contested marks), goals, contested possessions, effective possessions and rebound 50s per game than Mitchell; and same clearances & inside 50s; less tackles, clangers & goal assists.

"Meh".

That and players get selected on reputation an awful lot.

Look at Pavlich and his 30 selections, or Scarlett, even as recently as last year.

Decent seasons, absolutely, but if those respected players are even near another in their outputs for the season, rest assured they'll be getting the nod.

Buddy's becoming one of those players. Take this year:

19 goals to Round 10. Not horrible at all, but clearly he wasn't as good nor consistent as the likes of Walker & Hawkins, or even Podsiadly, Crameri and Riewoldt.

Then he kicks 13, and everybody sees the overall goal tally and thinks "ah yeah, same (good) old Buddy. Must've been the best FF this year."

Also keep in mind he'll have missed 6 games this year. Jobe missed that amount last year which was enough to cost him a spot in the AA side, despite to that point being very close to the best player in the entire competition.

But rest assured, they'll find a way to slot Buddy in this year.
What d'ya know?

Your like some kind of prophet!!! :thumbsu:

Or AA selection and media praise is that predictable that this comes as a surprise to no one.

But let's stick with prophet it sounds better :)

Don't buy that at all.

Pavlich, Hawkins, Walker all had far more impact and influence. Raw numbers is an inane way to judge a lot of things in football there are intangibles which are more important. "The numbers don't lie" is such a fallacy.

True dat, as the young people would say.

Hawkins taking a speccy over 5 blokes and goaling is not the same as Riewolt refusing to be part of a zone and getting a cheapie off the turnover, this happens with extraordinary regularity.

As a pure FF Riewoldt not only had the most goals this season, but equal most marks I50 with Hawkins. He averaged 0.2 less Contested Marks per game less than Franklin and considering Buddy gets 5 more touches a game, that isn't that bad. Riewoldt was the best Full Forward this season, and Franklin was the third best CHF this season behing Pav and Hawkins

Round 23:

Pavlich and Hawkins play pivotal "structural" roles for their clubs as they win necessary games leading in to the finals.

Jack Riewoldt skimps out the back of zones, lets his man run up the field, and demands the ball at every opportunity. At one point he actually runs around an open teammate to ensure he kicks a goal in his quest for personal glory. Richmond fail to beat Port Adelaide, at home.

You're making the mistake that goals is all that matters. Jack had a fairly ordinary year, yeah he kicked goals, but that's all he did. Remember he may have won the Coleman, but he only kicked 65 goals. Not that outstanding really.

Shocked that more people don't see this. People point to his tackle count, but he wouldn't know a defensive zone if it turkey slapped him.

Name 1 player who played FF who had a better season. Riewoldt should've been in the side, no doubt

Buddy
Pav in the second half of the year
Petrie

Say what Jack did that the others didn't, then I'll tell you what the others did that Jack doesn't.
