On another topic, what Robbo is doing with this McCarthy story is absolutely disgusting, and I'm surprised Whateley isn't calling him out on turning what is something very tragic and sad into a football narrative.
What'd he do?

What'd he do?

He's just framing it as this great football story and how amazed he is by everything at Collingwood and how they should win the flag because of this.

Extensive coverage of the funeral, and just overall how he wants to immerse himself in it to see who can grieve hardest... it's ridiculous.

Should be zero coverage of the funeral stuff, last thing the people that knew him have to see everytime they turn on something is pictures or it constantly being spoken about. But I guess that's likely never to happen since the media vultures love to circle.

Thomas is a fair bit worse than Sammy Lonergan.

Similar style, the difference being Sammy goes in and nullifies most contests he's in, Thomas wins them, doesn't rake it up though, fantastic leadership. He would be a great pocket/rotation player in any team, goes harder than practically any player in the competition. Cassissi and Cornes don't go half as hard.

And yet one gets over twice as many clearances as the other.
Thomas is bog-average. There's a reason 13th-placed Port just couldn't care less about him, he's not very good at even one area of the game.
Grass is always greener.

Who does he push out? Where's the upside?
He's essentially replacing the lost depth of McVeigh, Slattery and probably one or both of Dyson/Baguley.
I know you're not a fan of having any kind of depth (relax, it was a joke.. kind of), but as I said, if he came cheap, say for a pick we're not gonna use, or the rookie draft, I'd take him.

He offers another ready to go, 23-26 year old that plug holes.

Jetta/Melksham/Monfries. Wheres the upside of Toovey, Puoplou, Bird, Mattner, Sinclair, Blair, McKay, Wright, Henderson, Callinan, Stratton? Teams need role players, no matter where they are on the ladder.

Wheres the upside of Toovey,
Good kick, good size, flexible... probably in our best side at both ends
Quick, good kick, rebounds, kicks goals. Again probably in our best side at either end.
Still dunno where he fits in. Wouldn't chase
Good defender, good rebounder
Sinclair,
Quick, tackles well - wouldn't pay a heap though
Hard, flexible, finds the ball, kicks goals
Unsure
Quick, creative
Henderson,
Quick, good height, flexible
Callinan,
Kicks goals.
Stratton?
Can go either tall or small, pretty good overhead, reasonable kick
Teams need role players, no matter where they are on the ladder.
Agreed. We could do with a quick half-forward, a half-back who can kick, a genuine big-bodied quick tagger, another good back pocket, etc etc etc

What the heck is Thomas' role, that we lack? Sort of slow, hard, half-forward sort of tagger who doesn't kick goals? We've got one of those. Except I think he can, still, kick goals.

For starters Monfries is about as hard as Paris Hilton. I haven't even said previously we should even go after him, but he is a good player, who can set the tone/spark his teammates. Two of our best prospects over the last two years have been very similar players to him, Howlett and Hibberd. We're lacking serious hardness forward of centre and I think he could replicate what those boys have brought to the midfield and back line respectively.

Monfries isn't that soft. He puts his head over the ball a lot. I wouldn't call him soft.

Jeez swans look good.

Swans making the general AFL public very happy tonight.

I loved the shots to the Pies fans in the crowd in the last 5 mins. None of them smiled when the camera was on them, but I didn't know if they were disappointed or it was just their natural reaction to getting their mugshot taken.
