Is diving selfish or cheating !

And Buddy Franklin is hardly a selfish player - Wish all forwards had his work-rate.

I deleted that post as I felt 'your board' etc. But given you responded ...

People seem to act as if Carey was some gift given to North and all our success in the 90s should be discounted. They forget we recruited him, we developed him from a 17 year old, we built excellent game plans, we held onto him in the face of massive offers from other clubs etc.

By your logic, should Michael Long's (another great of the game like Boomer) 2000 medal not count because his captain was James Hird, one of the best players ever?
Greg Miller gave Sydney $10k for him as a steak knives when he was getting Longmire. Pretty much a gift.
This is the thing about North - would not have a flag without buying players (Wade, Rantall, Davis in the 70s, Carey in the 90s).
Hardly discounting the success, because as you say you bought him early, built the side around him & brought him through - but that would not, ever, be allowed to happen today where a bigger, richer club simply buys a player.

Can you imagine the uproar if Mick Malthouse went up & offered GC $50k to take Zac Smith or Swallow off their hands???

It was excellent recruiting. We saw a young talent and snapped him up. Same as you did with Hird who was drafted at pick 175,000 or whatever.

As for the 70s, how many ten year rule players were in the 77 flag? The real heart of that team - Dench, Schimma, Keith Greig, were all local recuits. And why didn't Essendon take advantage of it? Will you be forgoing limited free agency when it comes in now?

Not really, all clubs had opportunities to take Hird, North alone bought Sydney out.

No idea TBH on the 77 flag, surprise me!
Essendon was messed in the 70s though, wouldn't be surprised if they muffed it or ignored it - I'm pretty sure we voted against it (as did most of the other clubs)

Really? What stopped any other club approaching Sydney? Fact is both Longmire and carey were from our old zone but had fallen into Sydney's clutches and we made a great recruiting coup. Any other club could have approached them.

Same with Hird. You had the inside running on him due to family stuff and got him. The situations are perfectly comprable.

Not one player we acquired through the ten year rule played in that side.

Well, most of the other clubs couldn't have voted against it, or it never would have passed.

North did vote against it. Then when it passed, we took advantage of it. Huge sour grapes from all other clubs.

Question or statement?

It is selfish, for mine.

It's why Monfries is selfish, as well as Reimers.

You can either keep your feet and try to win the contest to help the team, or you can automatically go to ground and hope you get a free for it, and if you don't, you've literally laid down to allow your opponent off their leash.

Harvey doesn't "automatically" go to ground. In fact, he keeps his feet exceptionally well.

Well put.
Lloyd cleared it up when they moved him further out & made him captain, should've done it 3 years prior but better late than never.

To be fair Harvey had a reputation early in his career for diving - A fair call - Cleared this from his game 10 years ago.

I call this cheating - But we all have different opinions.

Putting the disaster of last night behind me.

Actually really looking forward to the Melb V Rich game today.

Both team's pretty even on paper with some exciting young prospects.

Should be a ripper.

Think we would have won another 2 games this year with Cloke in the team.

The other benefit is that the coaching panel wouldn't have considered PLAYING 3 rucks.;)
