Next expansion team: Amsterdam!

Team name: Dutch Courage, although the season would be played through their summer, so they could be the Dutch Ovens...
Or Brown could go over there for one last money grabbing season and they could be the dutch brownies?
OR
Perhaps they could be so hard up to recruit good players that Fev will make a comeback and they'll be called the Netherlands Neanderthals.

It was great when the forum used the vbulletin software. It doesn't work quite as well now although it is improving (as far as I can see).

There is a thread on the Suggestions, Feedback etc board if you want to get more info.

Is there any way to get rid of the very annoying ads that come up at the bottom of the screen when on bigfooty on your mobile?

This could be the numptiest question of all time:oops: but could someone explain to me how the PSD ( as opposed to the ND) actually works insofar as

1) How is the order of "picking" determined? and

2) is participation compulsory? and if not....

3) if a club elects to participate, can it "pass" at every turn?

Any team that doesn't fill all its senior list spots at the national draft has however many picks at the PSD it takes to fill the senior list.

The order is based on ladder position, just like the national draft. The difference being that not every team wishes to participate in the PSD. Also...PSD picks can't be traded.

Brisbane for example currently has 5 senior list spots free, therefore we go into the national draft with five draft picks, three of them live picks, then two later picks that we are using to use to elevate Crisp and McKeever to the senior list.

If we wanted to have a pick in the PSD (unlikely, barring a sudden change in the Tippett scenario), we would use our first two picks at the national draft, and elevate Crisp and McKeever, leaving one list spot free for our PSD pick.

It is almost certain though that we will use all our picks at the national draft this year though, and therefore won't participate in the pre season draft.

The best understanding I have of it is that clubs can keep spots on their list open at the end of the ND for the sole purpose of picking up a player/players in the PSD. So, if a club fills all their senior spots in the ND, they don't need to enter the PSD. The idea being that clubs can either a) pick up senior players that nominate for the PSD (Tippett for example), or they can pick the best of whatever youth players are left that nominated for the ND (how we ended up with Rockliff). Order is same as the draft but without any swapping of picks (so GWS if they have an open spot, then GC, then Melbourne, etc etc). Generally only one round required, but if a club had two spots, then it'd be two rounds of selections for them. Hopefully that makes sense!

EDIT - Beaten! Gah!

1) Same as the normal draft - inverse ladder, from last to first.

2) No, you only use it to fill any list spots you may have left over after the normal (national) draft (as per TBD and Drummo's comments).

3) Short answer: no. Stop reading there if you want the standard understanding. :) Long answer: Yes, but only the expansion clubs. Because they've got variable list sizes (min and max), they can pass in the PSD to have some free spots. GWS passed on six PSD picks last year to avoid having to delist anyone unnecessarily this year. All the other clubs have a set list size and have to fill it all up, so can't pass if they opted to have a PSD pick.

I have recently learned, thanks to a particularly nerdy type - theoretically, this is wrong.
It's only a maximum list size - for every club. You just get fined if you have free spot/s, but you can then upgrade a rookie whenever you want.
Effectively, yes, no club is going to go into a year with anything short of a full list.

Often the PSD is used if a player retires b/w November & December. ie starts pre-season then realises they're too old for this shit!

Just one variation on the theme.

Hypothetical situation:

Club A has got a full list after the ND.

Can it then de-list a player(i.e. after the ND) with the express intention of going after a particular player in the PSD?

And what happens if Club A then misses out on that "particular" player?

I'm envisioning a "Tippett" style scenario here.

Quite sure they can because there's another list lodgement around the 30th November. If they miss out on said player, they can take another player in the PSD (it's normally the same pool as the ND, like Rockliff wasn't passed up during the ND and was taken in PSD) or nominate a rookie. Therefore have 39 players on the main list, and 5 rookies (with one being a nominated rookie)

Can it then de-list a player(i.e. after the ND) with the express intention of going after a particular player in the PSD?

And what happens if Club A then misses out on that "particular" player?

I would assume that the club would get the delisted player to enter the PSD and then if another club picks the player they desire (Tippett for example), they would simply then re-draft their delisted player.

So if I get drafted last year and am half way through my first 2 year contract on min wages ... do I get stuck on a new 2 year contract at those wages so effectively a three year draftee?

No, previously listed players can specify their own contract requirements and can be signed for as little as one year. Realistically, they'd just play out their contract if redrafted by the same club.
