Hey folks, I have a retail related part time job interview tomorrow and I've never interviewed in this area of work before. Any advice?
Deck yourself out in everything the store has to offer. Jacket, beanie, scarf, etc.

Nah no idea I couldn't get a retail PT job back when I was at uni. Too ugly a mug to sell anything

Wear pants.
Thanks for clearing that up, I was confused about that one.

Haha considering it's a liquor store I'm not sure that would be the best idea. Maybe I should just drink a lot of the best product beforehand?

Maybe pipe on about how important you feel it is that alcohol be served responsibly and only to those who are of the right age - understand legal responsibility and potential ramifications of not adhering to the government's strict laws concerning consumption of alcohol etc.

Also might be worth throwing in some crap about making the customer's experience as pleasant as possible and how hard a worker you are.

Trust an IOS update to have issues. The latest iPad update dropped the other day and whilst it seems easier to key in symbols and all (all the symbols now show on the actual keyboard), I also find myself typing letters and numbers within the same word when I am typing too quickly, such as “mayb3”.

Seems like a pain in the arse.

Do copious amounts of research on every beverage on the shelf and then bore the shit out of them with your knowledge.

And then where you’re leaving, do the liquor store equivalent of Sheldon Cooper

Let them know you're reliable, a team player etc, all sorts of things they want in employees.

You're also much younger than I thought.

Ain't that the truth.

Haha I am? How old did you think I was?

I am. Haha this isn't my first job (and I'm also a, well former now, Uni student, but I plan on doing post-grad study next year), if that's what made you think I was younger, but I've not had one in retail, and I've been told the interviews for this line of work can be a little different to others.

Oh right. Is it just a single interview IE you're alone?

I would say you're reliable, always punctual etc

Key to all interviews is building a rapport with the interviewers. Don’t sit there answering away like some robot.

Worked in a bottle shop for 5+ years while studying and picked up a few things:

Do you have an RSA? If not they might ask you something about that, just act very responsible that you will check ID of anyone who looks under 25 and won't serve anyone who already seems intoxicated etc. Be personable and decisive with your answers (bottle shops staff are notoriously unreliable, so if you are unsure of things they will think you are flaky). Most important thing is to make yourself seem as available as possible and willing to work as many shifts as they can offer you, as with jobs like this people will call in sick and try and swap shifts often so if you are willing to come in and cover for people on short notice that's a big plus.

I’ve been watching the song Barcelona, performed by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe the last few days on a loop. The referendum has me in the mood for it.

Spectacular duet. One of the greatest ever.

The greatest ever. The love those two had for each other was incredible.

Totally agree mate! Out of this world performance.

It hurts that Freddie died so young. I really believe he would’ve done a lot more great things and maybe even more and more genre mixing. So very sad. We have stacks of videos to keep his memory alive.

glenferry23, me and the better half were getting ready for bed last night and she was brushing her teeth in the bathroom, and I was lingering around being a nuisance and she then exclaimed "Go to bed!", so off I trotted.... to the freezer. I came back with a loaf of bread and said "you said go to bread right?". She said it wasn't funny but started laughing. I couldn't help myself :D

I worked in a liquor store when I was young. You just have to make a quick recommendation based on feedback. You have to be approachable and good in conversation.
