Flying across the US is brutal. Even domestic flights require you to be there a couple of hours before your flight to go through the body scanners etc...I did Seattle, Washington to Washington DC and that was about 5 hours, then New York to Texas, which was about the same...with time zone changes, whole day is a write off. Felt good getting a car in Vegas and driving to LA. 4 or so hours, but less constricted.

My sister told me that she actually got the most jet lagged doing the internal flights between islands in Hawaii. The international flight was nothing but the internal ones are quite tiring with all the waiting around airports and the flights. It will definitely be worse since we have LA to Chicago, Chicago to NY and then NY to LA (but that can be considered part of a longer flight back home).

Also, train is a decent option in the US. I did Boston to New York on Amtrak, very pleasant.

Yeah, I’ve been told plenty that if we can catch a train anyway, to do it. It’s actually quite fun.

NYC is ******* amazing. How long are you there for?

4 nights mate. Get there July 3rd and leave July 7th in the evening (6PM flight). Looking so forward to 4th of July celebrations.

I was told by a friend who has been to NY that literally anyone, no matter the persons religion, could live comfortably in NY. There is literally something for everyone. I can’t wait to see all 3 cities but I think NY will be something else all together.

4 nights in LA (2 hotels booked for 2 nights in Anaheim and 2 nights in Hollywood), 3 in Chicago and 4 in NY. So much to do and see. I can’t wait.

You could only live comfortably in Manhattan if you were a millionaire.

The piece of shit that murdered my cousin will officially plead guilty next Tuesday. Does nothing to help my cousin but he'll never be able to have custody of their child at least.

There was talk he was going to plead not guilty but knowing the intricate details of the case, there's no way anyone would have believed it.

Looking like it'll be close to 18 years but we'll have to wait and see.

What is going to happen to the child? The kids in these situations really suffer.

18 years doesn't sound enough to me, what is the maximum sentence?

I don't know your case, but prepare for the worst with our judicial system. I know a guy who pleaded guilty on the night of the crime, but then plead down to manslaughter instead of murder and got downgraded with a 5 year sentence less time already served. was out in just over 4 years...

Justice system works in strange ways. That guy who had mental issues and claimed he had a bomb on a Malaysian Airlines flight out of Melbourne (he didn't actually have one) was given 12 years for it.

Meanwhile other violent criminals and / or rapists sometimes get less. For me that's ridiculous - the penalty should reflect the severity of the crime.

With my cousins parents (child's grandparents).

He didn't plead anything on the night - he had to for prior to his trial date though. With the case, there is zero chance anyone would believe it was manslaughter. Some of the details behind it still keep me up at night. He's an awful, awful human.

My uncle spent over 20 years as a prison guard.

Says it comes down to $$$. Housing a prisoner costs close to $100,000 in this state per year (not sure about others).

We want to appear tough on crime so we incarcerate even minor crimes, all across Aus the prison systems are running above capacity, despite crime rates going down. The system doesn’t work when we’re getting close to 50% sent back inside within two years

Been in Anaheim for 2 days so far. Disneyland is amazing. The workers and people in general are so friendly here. Last night we saw a fireworks show which is bloody amazing. That 15 minute show shits all over our New Years Eve show. There were Barbershop Quartets, College Bands. Just a really fun time. Later today we’re on the way to Hollywood for a couple of nights. I am sure it will be nice but I am kind of disappointed I am leaving Disneyland. I am considering going back in the future. Who knows if it will actually happen as I want to go to Greece so that’s a lot of money too but it’s something I would do.

The flight over from Australia was nice and comfortable. I bought seats that were right at the front with no seats in front of us and the only seats about a metre in front of us are the one used by the air hostess when the plane is taking off and landing which was nice as the lady who sat there was beautiful. So it was nice to talk to her, it took the edge off lol. I’ve got the same seats coming back home as well. Plenty of leg room where I don’t really need to get up to stretch my legs but everyone else seemed to stand right in that section to stretch theirs. Sitting anyway else would suck if you’re tall.

The scumbag deserves every last year he gets and hopefully the full sentence sticks. I am sorry your family has had to go through this. Especially a mother who is leaving behind a child.

Quite often the Prosecution will go with a charge of Manslaughter as it has a lower criteria to meet than Murder.

Even when they plead guilty?

I know in this instance they're going for murder (and will get it). The only question is really how long he goes away for now.

It's all to do with Intent - Murder requires the person to knowingly intend to cause the death of the victim. It's often hard to get a Murder conviction because you have to prove the mental state of the accused at the time of the event.

Manslaughter is used where there is an intent to kill but that the event is caused by an altered mental state (drugs or psychosis) or there is a reason for the action (e.g. self defence).

You can plead guilty to causing someones death - just depends on what the charge is.
