Sending my first born to day care at the end of the year and it makes me nervous as hell.

Unfortunately one of the prerequisites is no male teachers - which isn't overly fair but I'm just not willing to run that risk.

I don't know if you could totally control that. It seems like this guy did a lot of short stints at different day care centres as though he was an agency stand in for when the regular workers were absent. It's probably illegal for child care centres to openly state they don't hire men.

He worked at 20 different centres over 8 years. 2,600 families have received letters about the matter. 1,200 children have been recommended to undergo testing for STIs.

I'm not convinced by the arguments for more male child care workers - such as breaking down the stereotypes of what is traditionally seen as male or female work, or being role models. I think that comes later, in schools. Looking after 0 to 5 year olds is pretty much a surrogate parenting job for basic needs such as feeding, toileting, naps etc.

You think men can't look after a 0 to 5 year old? My God you're outdated. Childcare is about more than changing a nappy and chucking them in the corner.

Kids need their mum sure, but having a male at daycare isn't going to inhibit them.

I questioned CBA - and their excuse why the transaction bypassing my account security measures was the transaction "was done over the phone" even though they were done in the US. $2250 in the space of 5 minutes. This time zero NetBank notifications, nothing.

Speaking to a solicitor this morning, may take legal action this time.

Think it's so much harder on the Mum's because they don't really leave the kids. Like I've been back at work (both times) a month after they were born. I'm used to not having them around.

That's so weird, I purchased something early the other morning (boys were awake earlier than normal) and they sent me a message instantly. SMS and a Netbank notification asking if it was me. And it was an Australian transaction.

If you do move banks, I've heard ANZ's security is really good.

This stuff is happening everywhere with AI able to generate huge amounts of card nos from the first 6 digits (this identifies the bank).

Once they get a valid card it simply is a matter of having an employ at a vendor brute force test expiry and CVV combos of which there are only 60,000 - not much at all with serious computing power.

If a fraudster generates your card, exp and CVV any phone transaction will likely go through and bypass your security.

So she hasn't been back at work at all between kids? My wife's back 5 days a fortnight which I guess helps, but I think she's still anti-daycare more from a sickness perspective and also the fact that ours is still under 2 so there's no real tangible benefit to being there.

As I posted yesterday, if you do your research and look into the childcare centre there really should be no issues. I think the ABC did a really good article a while back on what the red flags are with childcare centres (constant staff turnover being one of the key ones) but one bad story in the press shouldn't be that strong a deterrent.

It's why I go a bit crazy at the reels and stories etc. my wife sends me about 'such and such is a choking hazard' or 'horror story of kid swallowing a steel cleaning bristle left on a BBQ' etc. It's the old 'you're more likely to be killed by a falling coconut than a shark' the odds of some of this shit really isn't worth the emotional energy spent stressing about it.

Weren't you complaining about the same thing in February and were going to close the accounts?

Yeah you’re better off stop using that debit card as they clearly know when you’re moving money between accounts.

Always had a credit card with CBA and never had problems. Opened some new accounts recently and they gave me a debit card. Haven’t used it as yet but prefer a credit card instead.

Couldn't you just close all your accounts at commonwealth bank and then open new accounts, with new BSB/account numbers for every account? This has happened enough times to you to suggest fraudsters have your account details and monitoring them to scam you every so often. Worrying stuff.

I'm done with CBA after this. I'll claim what compo I can, close accounts & move on.

They don't have BSB number at all. It's the debit card linked that they got through card generation. It's a big problem right now.

I've been with CBA for 25 years. Their security is hopeless. I got that after one suggestion was disable all debit & online transactions completely.

That means everytime a direct debit comes out I have to allow it, lock it afterwards. Same with paying bills online.

A huge headache but will do that until I can get out of CBA completely.

They're not bothered either as they put the onus on the customer to wear the issue until it's resolved.

I'll get my $2250 back - however I am being forced to wait while the transaction changes from pending to complete and CBA completes their own process. So up to 20 days that I have to carry the burden.

Which it's fair enough to worry about to an extent I guess, but I dunno how she's going to handle those trampoline centre things or if she ends up getting into gymnastics if she's constantly worrying about her flipping and rolling around..

My wife's doing her Masters at uni so waiting until that clears up, probably mid-next year at this stage. Think we're still undecided on 2-3 but I guess we'll see how the second goes.

Yeah think we're aiming for 2.5-3 year gap. I wouldn't want much more than 3 years.
