You are right. We should be able to take care of you guys.

But you are being a bit disingenuous with "only just snuck into the playoffs" though. You won 47 games and missed home court advantage in the first round by 1 game. You guys are hardly terrible.

You're also right, and I am being facetious, but also - we also only missed 9th spot by 1 game and only made the playoffs 2 days ago.

I agree we aren't "thaaat" bad, but our 47wins is overselling us based on Pop's ability to rotate and get the most out of guys (which often gets exposed in the playoffs against the top teams) while your 58wins is underselling you, due to a combination of not having the desire to push too hard for the top seed, injuries (which other than Curry seem to have healed just in time, and games missed probably extended longer to allow rest) and Kerr resting guys and preparing for playoffs without pressure.

Even Curry-less you are by far a better team, and Kerr is too good a coach to let Pop out-coach him enough for the Spurs to steal more than 1 game.

(And hey, in the "who's team is worst" argument - I'm clearly winning right now)

You're definitely the worst :p

I'm not sure 58 wins is underselling us. It's probably what we would win if Curry was out for the year. Having said that 58 is obviously >>>>> better than a 47 win team.

I do hope Iggy is healthy though. We lack ball handlers.

I think a trade with Boston would have to be centred around Hayward AND Taytum/Brown. Kawhi is a top 3 player, when healthy, and even with the year off should have a trade value as a top 10 guy. (Alot depends on whats going on with his "injury" and whether those involved actually buy that he's hurt or think he'll suddenly be fit once he moves - sorry, slightly cynical)
He's also still young and has another 2 years on his contract - so there will be a lot of suitors after him... plus I think RC and Pop will be rightly pretty pissed off with how he's handled this whole season if he now demands a trade to a specific destination, and they won't do him any favours if they aren't getting fair value in return. (Opposed to say last year where Pop told LMA he would gladly trade him if they could get fair value).

If I was Boston I wouldn’t give that up for Leonard. Tatum and Brown are the future there. If they were fully fit right now (Irving and Hayward) they’d be going to finals. I don’t think they need such a drastic change to contend, they just need health.

Because he had an unbelievable rookie season?

I don't care who people prefer for ROY, but to say one candidate is streets ahead of the other is homerism, and frankly bullshit. They'd both be deserving.

This is what’s kinda starting to piss me off. I do think Simmons is in front, but it’s starting to get painted like Mitchell is overhyped and shit in comparison. What they’re both doing is phenomenal, can’t we just enjoy both without having to try and bring the one you don’t support down a notch.

No-one is saying that Mitchell isn't also having a great year, or that in any other season he wouldn't be a clear ROTY winner.

Its Melo-LBJ '04 all over again. One has had an amazing offensive year, and looks like becoming a 10+ all star and all-nba talent.
One looks like a future MVP and generational player - plenty of analysts and former players are talking about Ben that way - haven't heard anyone say it about Mitchell.

Seriously - do you think a single club would choose Mitchell over Ben if they held a draft today? That should be the answer right there.
(Even clubs like Cleveland or GSW, who dont need Ben's playmaking and could take advantage of Mitchell's scoring, would draft Ben and then trade him for Mitchell and significant change).
That is in no way shitting on Mitchell - he's just not as good.

It's also telling that Mitchell's dig's at Simmons (which I love and think are hilarious, btw) are all to do with him not being a "rookie" - he's not arguing that he's the better player, just that he think's Simmons shouldn't be eligible for the award.

Irving, Hayward and Leonard would be pretty ******* amazing though and it would basically set up 76ers v Boston for the next 4 seasons of ECFs.

I'm assuming LeBron dies obviously.

Nah Lebron's going to Philly to become Karl Malone in the post like he was born to do.

Eh, Simmons is really good. Mitchell is as well.

If it gets to the point of anyone saying 'Lol @ voting for Mitchell', then it's just silly. Perfectly good candidate for whom a perfectly good case can be made for. Half the Cleveland team said that they'd vote for him, and it's not as if they have a vested interest.

It's not just ROY, this kinda polarity shit goes on everywhere - MVP discussions, GOAT discussions, All-star jerseys. It's all subjective. Pick a side, sure, but no need to declare a travesty if the other guy wins.

If the Pels had number 1 pick in the draft which would you prefer them to take?

Look - I think Mitchell deserves his share of the votes, I would even accept a co-ROTY as a reasonable outcome.
I do not think Mitchell deserves the majority of the votes - and I think it would be unfair if Simmon's doesnt win it.

I like how people think you can have a discussion on who wins ROTY on bigfooty dot com (dot au).

And damn, the sign of changing (for the worse?) times to reminisce an old BF where two coaches getting fired would have actually generated discussion.

The Magic will be on their 5th coach in 5 ****ing years!

I think NYC firing was always going to happen, so it's hardly a surprise.

Orlando, maybe not. But who gives a **** about Orlando?

Why can't we have that discussion?
I don't think it's an aussie thing at all. We would've had that same discussion for LBJ vs Melo, or Stoudemire over Ming, or Okafor over Howard.
I think most on here are reasonable enough to not let the aussie bias play too big a factor in their opinions.
---

As for the coaches being sacked - Hornecak was absolutely gone, and its a bit of a suprise he lasted the season.
The Magic? for me they are just a "meh" team, and have been for years. Being a regular non-playoff time in the Eastern Conference will kind of do that.

You don't internet much do you.

That's the point!

I mean it's now filtered into this thread, it's got it's own separate thread, and it's always brought up in the team respective threads. And there's another 2 months before there's a winner.

For something that will almost unanimously be agreed upon (and one I'm not exactly torn on). I'm actually more interested in people making the case for Mitchell without resorting to the redshirt rookie thing, so @ me when that comes up.

But I am really looking forward to people making arguments for either based on their post-season play, for a regular season award.

This is always a good one. People get salty when saying MJ/LeBron are only the 2nd greatest player of the 10B+ people that have been on the earth.

It's always funny, and why I always argue the other side.

Flat earth or round earth?
