Few fumbles by hand, but probably yet to adjust to the pace of senior footy after a break.

I thought he was very good first time out, apart from a few efforts where he didnt go in hard enough. Ridiculous assesment by Robert Walls, was at least 5/10, no way he was as bad a 3/10.

fwiw, I thought he was close to our worst. Got a few kicks loose but was very poor elsewhere. Iles has been better the last few weeks.

Walls is a tosser..

20 possession & 4 tackles, surely deserves more that that!

I thought he did well for his first game back:thumbsu:

Lonie played well, especially in the first half; he will get better.

Robert Walls is a fool. He was trying so hard to put a positive spin on Collingwood's "dream" draw so he said, "Wouldn't you love to be a Collingwood supporter!"

Was very good out of the game for over 3 months, struggling with OP, but was well rewarded after 3-4 very good games in the VFL.

His first half was very good, and a mistake in the third saw him off the ground from then on I thought...as for soft...ahahahaha, did you watch the game, your just like most of the anti-Lonie posters, who have never had anything interesting to say but the same things...you can go in that category.

I didn't hear what Walls said and he's definitely a grade A tosser...but the stat-line is deceiving. Pendles actually had exactly the same (20 and 4 tackles), but was probably 3rd best after Lockyer and Cloke.

The possession stat is unfortunately a very poor indicator of performance. Lonie was poor (granted it was his first game back, but let's not make excuses).

Okay, how the **** was Lonie poor...the amount of fumbles by the side was quite high, and one fumble from Lonie trying to pick up a ball off the ground sees him have a shocker...he had a couple of goal assists, laid some solid tackles, he did some very nice things, and it showed that when he was up and about, the Pies were, and when he was down and out of the game/off the ground, the club was down.

Pauline Hansen says please explain.

Good first half. Has lost a bit of toe with OP, but his skills still were very good.

Poorer second half, with some "footsteps" moments. He'll never get his knees dirty, but he is no write off.

Tarks would have been in a similar boat, but he has found his niche as a soft, but prolific and well skilled, linking option. Once Lones is fully fit again, he should/could still play that sort of role.

Wish he banged a 55 metre gem. I miss em!

I thought Lonie was soft today, dead set. He gave away a few goals in the 2nd half and he knew it too. His skills are good, but I wouldn't want to take him into another finals series, he's just too much of a specatator.

Marty Clarke also needed to throw himself in a bit more today, some of his tackles were pretty limp. Plenty of excuses for a kid coming from Gaelic though, and there was a lot else to like about his game. I also love the fact that MM is fully prepared to have him play most of his game in the midfield. :thumbsu:

Lonie started ok, but he fumbled at critical times, I am thinking that there is only room for either Ryan or rhyce not both, clarke and pedelbury are more certain. I think lonie and illes are a bit on par both fringe players.

Well thank god he did know it. Lonie was good today. Let's not kid ourselves, that is always going to be his weakness. It may not look good and you may cop a bit of ribbing from opposition fans but at the end of the day he gets the job done more often than not. What defender doesn't give up 2 or 3 goals a game through mistakes? Lonie's may be more glaring but they don't hurt us more than say a poor kick in, a poor handball out of defence or a poor decision to contest or not contest the ball in the air.

Clarke was great today, his kicking wasn't as good as it has been but he beat Stanton and got 9 contested possessions today (equal most for us), he made a few mistakes regarding on whether he should go for the ball or sit back and wait today.

Agree with the Lonie part, but I don't think Clarke was in the least bit soft...he just needs to keep his feet better, atm he's challenging Fraser for most grass-burns. Having said that, Clarke was still very good today, though his first couple of games were better.

There is a reason why Walls got sacked from every team he coached.

Lonie was ok, missed 15 weeks

Clarke was great, but he needs to work on tackling, he is starting to give away alot of frees for things like in the back etc.

"Soft" is not the word I would use, or did use, to describe Clarke. I'm just saying his tackling needs work, which is understandable coming from a sport where there is no tackling.

Lonie played very well today...anyone who thinks one fumble is a shocker is trying to justify a rediculous position.
Wakelin was solid again.
Licca played well although did not have a lot of game time after really putting in a gutsy tackle early and slightly injuring himself.

Can't wait for the next thread calling for them to be traded...

Three old blokes playing good footy is worth 3,000 talking good footy.

i thought lonie had a pretty good first half but like some of the players esp in the 3rd, made a few bad mistakes. It wasnt just lonie who made a few fumbles and mistakes. Yes not getting dirty is his weakness but i believe his positives: in run, ability to shut down players when needed, nice left foot and 50 metre goals really outweigh this. I think he has improved in his tackling and hardness at the ball to some degree but will never be a scott burns or paul licuria hard at it kind of player. Id be quite happy to have him at collingwood as he does provide good depth and is one of the better kicks in the team that doesnt have the greatest kickers. I really dont believe in getting rid of players just because of 1 weakness if they still have a good purpose be it to teach younger players, provide depth or add some class and experience. Unless you really think we cant get something good for lonie in a trade then by all means go for it but if not then the costs really do outweigh the returns. But for first game back after being out for so long he did alright lonie!

Lonie's first half was great not bad for his first game back in a while. Clarke was very good super fit i think he is still getting caught in his natural gaelic football brain cause a few times he played on without being aware of tacklers almost to the point of running toward a tackler rather then evading but his skills were pretty good...he likes to kick it off the ground alot i'm not sure if thats a good thing or not but time will tell. Also on the fumbling part did anyone else watch Ben Johnson's game boy that guy has got butter fingers some times was really frustrating at times.
