Was at the Clippers/Philly game tonight. Crowd was a little sparse, but I guess considering the records of the two it was to be expected.

Kaman was a black hole early and Dalembert had like 6 blocks in the first quarter.

Good atmosphere and the boos for Elton Brand were epic. If anyone saw a bright yellow tshirt behind the basket, that was me :).

Considering the stats he's been producing in the minutes he's been playing (and that he's 2nd only to LeBron in PER), I think Tim Duncan is being underrated as an MVP candidate. He's currently having his best ever season in terms of PER, as is Steve Nash. .

No he's not. He's having a good season, but is nowhere near the force he used to be back in the day, primarily in terms of defensive presence and the ability to draw double teams as soon as he touched it. The PER thing is mainly due to some flukish early season shooting %s (ditto for Nash, btw). Both will eventually level out.

Field Goal Percentages

Tim Duncan
First 10 games 2009/10 - 0.519%
Last 5 seasons (2004/05-2008-09) - 0.505%
Career - 0.509%

Steve Nash
First 10 games 2009/10 - 0.539%
Last 5 seasons (2004/05-2008-09) - 0.511%
Career - 0.489%

I'd hardly say their early-season FG percentages were 'flukish' in any way. Statisically, they're both playing more efficiently than they ever have before though. Just because they're not the sexy pick for MVP, it doesn't detract from the fact that they're both worthy contenders this year.

I have no idea why you've split it up into first 10 and last 5.

Simply put, Duncan is shooting at over .550 FG after shooting .500 the last 2 years, therefore flukish. He's also shooting .780+ from the line, which won't last.

Nash's %s are more feasible, but even he should see a bit of a drop from .54/.945 as the season wears on.

Neither are MVP candidates because neither's team is good enough, especially when the hands-down best player in the league is sitting on 26-8.

I was showing their early season form from this year, as well as showing what they've done in recent years, and over their entire career, in order to make an effective comparison to prove that their early season FG percentages weren't a fluke as you suggested.

I just think those two deserve more recognition/hype than they're getting this season. I also believe that the MVP award should go to the best player in the league, not the best player on a playoff team. That's obviously not how it always works, but that's how it should work IMO. We've got the NBA Championship for the best team. The Most Valueable Player should go to the best individual player, regardless of his team's record. If your a great player surrounded by duds, IMO it doesn't make you any less great.

MVP (by definition) shouldnt go to the best individual player, but the one that makes the most difference to his team. Kobe won an MVP and was probably the leagues best player, but that Lakers squad still wins a lot of games without him. Spurs and Suns would still win a fair few games without Timmy and Nash respectively.

The Cavs on the other hand, would be absolutely rubbish without LBJ. He should be miles ahead in MVP voting, and unless he moves to a team with some actual talent, he should win this award for years to come.

Id say Kevin Durant is player of the month and fairly easily too. He gets so underrated playing for a side like the Thunder

Shelden Williams tweeted that the 'gunfight' started after Arenas refused to pay a 150k gambling debt to Crittendon.

Does it matter ifthe bet was on the outcome of a NBA match. Could be interesting if it is. Wheres Critt gonna get 150k from anyway, hes a scrub

Durant is anything but underrated. The man love for him around here is nuts!

Oh, and Blake is out indefinitely with pneumonia as well as Aldridge expected to miss a few games with his ankle injury. Feel free to laugh as that leaves us with

Andre Miller / Jerryd Bayless
Brandon Roy
Martell Webster
Jeff Pendergraph / Dante Cunningham
Juwan Howard / Shavlick Randolph

Shame Patty has gone to the D-League because he could've got some minutes in the next few games.

Durant = 29.7, 6.6, 2.8 with 4.1 TO's a game.
Zbo = 23.6, 14.2, 1.9 with 2.5 TO's a game.

Oklahoma went 9-6 in December.
Memphis went 9-4 in December.

Easily?? And that is discounting Kobe who went 31, 6 and 5 with 3 TO's a game.

Gee you come out with some pearlers Embers.

Nate Robinson doesn't play for exactly 1 month and comes back with a 40 point game with 8 assists. Such an unpredictable player.

6 boards as well thanks.

Yeah he has killed them. Bibby just cant stop quick guards, doesnt have it anymore. Will be funny if Atlolta loses this, lost the fourth 32-19... :D
