He said he was moving, a mate said he was going to lump on, and Trippier said "If you want". What was he meant to do, drive to his mate's house and physically stop him betting?

It is given his privilege which you're ignoring. It's insider trading. You're blind mate.

You do know insider trading isn't a thing in betting.. right?

Trippier is literally only in trouble because of FIFA regulations, not gambling.

When it comes to 'insider trading' betting agencies would void the bets if they had evidence of it, but it's not illegal like actual insider trading is.

Betting companies let you bet on ****ing reality TV shows. They would weigh up the risk of allowing particular markets against the return they get from idiot nuffies who lump on anything. And then put the markets up. They can't then cry foul when said risk materialises. Particularly with reality shows when they're pre-recorded. Transfers aren't much better. If you're following certain news outlets or have certain sources you follow you can get transfer news way before a lot of people and make a lot of money off transfers, but they still offer odds because they clearly make a healthy margin on it.

I don't even know what risk there is of spot fixing with Trippier's issue. What's he going to do, deliberately sabotage a transfer and go to another club last minute to get good odds on a move? It's not like a player getting sent off for a betting market.

No, unless an NDA was signed.
Hahaha

Mate asks him about his future and he’s meant to hand him a piece of paper first and say ‘sign this’. What a crock.

my heart bleeds for the betting vultures that his mate made a few quid off them. Fifa can get stuffed, stupid ban

Was talking about the person changing companies signing an NDA... have you never heard of that before? Standard Gero not knowing anything and jumping to conclusions.

Overruled.

So you've never heard of a NDA for someone switching companies before when they have important positions?

I guess clubs prefer it when a player tells everyone they;re moving.. that's why they don't make those big announcement videos.

Stick to spurs and your right wing nutjobbery.

Yes this is the setting for an NDA. A mate asking about Trippier and his future. Bloody hell Brades, use the cranium and think critically. He’s been banned for telling a mate what’s happening in his life. Not his fault betting companies have stupid markets for this type if stuff.

I never once said that the mate has to sign an NDA. You're making shit up to try some sort of "gotchya" moment like a true RW.

If he does it, everyone else does it... gambling companies start to lose more. Mum and dad investors lose their money. This is insider trading. But because it screws betting companies... no one cares. If he told his mate I'm off to Madrid to sign a contract.. no biggy. But telling him to lump money on is just plain stupid. Not surprising considering he probably hasn't been in education since 15.

I'm going to steal some food from a bakery. It's not my fault they don't have it behind lock and key. #GerosRWuneducatedlogic

Simple fact, it's against the rules. His registration is conditional on acceptance of those rules and he very clearly broke the rules.

Theft against someone you don't like is still theft.

so if he had told his mates he was moving to atletico but didnt say/suggest to bet would it be different from saying you're moving to a workplace to your mate?

If the terms and conditions of your contract specify that you couldn't do it, there would be no difference at all.

Again the ban has nothing to do with betting companies being protected. The money is meaningless.

All sporting bodies draw the line on these things because it’s exactly how players get dragged into more sinister situations. Trippier has only sent this to a mate so it’s harsh, and it probably never gets noticed if his mate doesn’t put a bunch of bets on it.

The problem is the majority of spot/match fixing starts innocently like this, until the wrong person gets that text or info and uses it as leverage against a player. From there it’s almost impossible for the player to get out of the spiral.

If the terms and conditions of your contract specify that you couldn't do it, there would be no difference at all.

So just to be clear, do player contracts specify they aren't allowed to tell anyone about a move before it happens? If it does then that's entirely different.

I still don't think he should be accused of telling his friends to bet on his move when the findings of the case couldn't charge him with that.

Their contracts will specify that they need to comply with FA rules.

And I'm asking if the rule is that they can't tell friends that they're about to move to a new club.

This is the rule.

No Participant can bet on a match or competition in which they are involved that season, or which they can influence, or any other football-related matter concerning the league that they play in. Participants are also prohibited from using or passing inside information for betting.

So as expected the regulations are pure ass. A man cannot tell his friends or family of life’s developments for fear if inside information.

What a crock to protect vultures.
