Yeah, that’s fair. The footballers likely would just head overseas and find plenty of clubs to take them on.

I do wonder if there's some form of suspension - you'd assume FIFA would want to crack down on this sort of thing - Davila at Macarthur hasn't played since but he is also 34. Jed Drew was also named in the Macarthur incident but was back playing this season and is now over in Austria.

Probably depends on the bets and how many times it happened. A footballer betting on his/her own club would probably be a bigger suspension than if they told a family member some inside information about injuries and to place a bet.

Will be interesting to find out what happens in this case.

Interesting that this is the second time this has happened now.

You'd have to assume as a player that the authorities seem all over this. Be an even more incredibly stupid thing to do.

Yeah wonder how much they're getting offered to do it. Would have to be substantial.

Not sure it's a non story at all.

There's quite a few red flags in that article:

“The club has been working collaboratively with the ATO over this matter for some time and has a plan in place to resolve imminently,” Patafta said.
So they've known about it for 'some time' but are only bothering to pay it now the ATO have gone public with it. Why was it not resolved when first raised?

In 2015, Football Australia’s independent arbitrator terminated midfielder Luke Brattan’s contract after over a year of unpaid superannuation. In 2020, ex-manager Robbie Fowler launched legal action for what he alleged was wrongful dismissal, eventually winning damages through FIFA. That same year, Logan City Council sued the Roar for $150,000 in unpaid fees. The following year, former Socceroo Brett Holman had to take legal steps to receive over $400,000 in insurance money after a career-ending injury sustained while playing for the Roar.
Then there's the multiple examples of financial issues.

Very clearly, there's an ongoing trend with these owners.

You're aware that negotiations mean they would have been disputing the bill due yes? I don't think it's 'bothering' to pay it now as if the ATO going public has forced them to act. Don't think those are the red flags you think they are.

I think they desperately need to get out of Suncorp. It's a joke they're still hosting games there.

That's obvious. A 53k stadium is far too big for an A-League club other than for big events like a GF. Even a 15k crowd feels sparse in that stadium. The issue is there aren't any real alternatives in Brisbane that meet professional football requirements. Dolphins stadium is one but that is out at Capalaba and not really suitable either. QSAC is useless.

There has been a strong push for Perry Park to be upgrade to a 15k capacity boutqiue stadium as the home of football in QLD.

Football Queensland / Australia are pushing the government hard for it. Probably reminding them how much money the 2023 Women's WC brought into QLD and football venues are required for the 2032 Olympics.

Luke Brattan not being paid Super for a year. Oops, sorry about that. Whatever, once off, everyone makes mistakes.

Robbie Fowler winning damages through Fifa for wrongful dismissal. Ok, not great. Maybe that happens every now and then.

Logan City Council suing for unpaid fees - this is starting to look like a pattern...

Holman having to take legal steps for his insurance money. Rigggggght.

Then of course we've got the ATO payments that haven't occurred.

If you don't think there's red flags there, or a pattern of not paying money when they should, I don't know what to tell you.

How long do they continue to push for that while playing at Suncorp though?

I understand why they want it upgraded but I'm not sure they're currently in a position of strength in which to negotiate. I'd love to know how much money they're losing each home game they play at Suncorp.

No, I said the text you quoted about them working with the ATO wasn't the red flag that you indicated it was. I didn't comment on the Brattan and Fowler stories because they're from 5-10 years ago. (Fowler suing for wrongful dismissal has nothing to do with anything by the way, I also don't even know how a manager gets away with suing for wrongful dismissal or else half the managers out there would do it). There's a Brisbane Roar thread if you have a burning passion to dissect the Roar's financial history, but I'm really not sure what this crusade is about other than you getting your back up that people called you out for only calling out negative A-League stories.

Jatz didn't even bother to do his research. For starters two of the issues he raised were related to covid. This caused similar issues in all sports and leagues all over the world and are not surprising in the least.

Robbie Fowler was a covid issue - he decided to go back to UK during covid, leaving the club without a manager. He was dismissed by Roar who needed an actual manager to run the club. Plenty of this sort of stuff happened in clubs all over the world during covid.

Logan city council - wanted lease payments to be made for training facility when everyone was in lockdown and it couldn't be used. Again, not that surprising considering the COVID circumstances and not surprising at all for Roar to be disputing it as they were unable to use the venue during lockdown.

Leaving an insurance dispute which was resolved and one player who had unpaid super from 10 years ago. Interesting it was one player only that had an issue.

Nothing like how Jatz attempted to portray things at all.

I bow to your superior knowledge of course, I couldn't even imagine having the IQ you do. **** life must be difficult having to lower yourself to us simpletons.

What a strange response. Zidane was the one who went through each issue you raised.

Everything ok?
