It's up to the clubs to manage players workload.

We.played 5 games, none of our players played in all of them. We had a full break and one pre-season game when we would normally play 3 or 4.
Should it not also be up to the players? Are they allowed to opt out of the tournament?

I wouldn't think so. But I wouldn't think players could opt out of a league cup or FA cup game either.

I think there should be protection for players in terms of the amount of breaks they should get (there is such a rule) and the amount of playing time they have (there needs to be) but in terms of the games they play and the games they miss then that needs to be up to the clubs.

Something I think soccer maybe could use as a tactic? The bomb like in the NRL. Jordan Pickford etc kind of do it from time to time, but I'm thinking something more like....a winger with the ball attracts a couple defenders, he passes it to a midfielder off the edge of the box who is kinda open...he has a little time and flicks the ball up as he receives the pass, then puts up a huge up and under inside the box. Keeper could get himself in trouble rushing out for that. Or even further away from the box, putting one up that falls to the edge of the box.

Ive watched a lot of soccer around the world now for 3+ years and have never seen a tactic like this. Is my idea completely without merit? Or possibly an interesting idea to use every now and then?

Liverpool pretty much just conceded like this today. Just a high ball that's awkward for the centre backs and too far for the keeper to come up for.

Ederson has a bunch of assists from this type of move.
