So after playing Aussie Rules all my life I'll suit up for my first game of competitive soccer/football tomorrow. To say I'm keen is an understatement but the problem is that since yesterday and particularly today I've developed some sort of virus or the flu. Hopefully I feel a lot better tomorrow than I do tomorrow.

Anyway, any tips or advice?

Good luck. Do you know what position you're likely to play?

Cheers. Yeah, centre/defensive midfield. Hardest thing I think will be maintaining positional discipline and remaining calm when receiving the ball under pressure.

Yep, definitely try and keep positional discipline. Don't over commit to attacks if you aren't confident you can get back is one thing I'd say.

Good luck mate, I haven't played outdoor since high school (though I was a long-term futsal player, played that until I was 24 then the injuries came)

I reckon just do what the coach/captain wants you to do, all I did was do what my captain wanted me to do and held my position, I normally played CB/RB, occasionally went up front as a target man when we were struggling.

I think once you know your teammates strengths and weaknesses and start to feel comfortable in the team you'll be ok

What position are you playing/have been groomed to play? Edit CM/CDM

Yeah don't give the ball away I think is the number 1 thing playing in CM, hold your position and make sure you're in good positions to be able to receive the ball is next priority

Because it isn't 2012?

On that note, Henderson out for 6-8 weeks with a LCL injury putting him out for the rest of the season, which means we probably will be seeing a fair bit of Lucas over the next few weeks.

Real shame for Hendo. After outstanding 2013/14 & 2014/15 seasons, this year has basically been a write off for him. That's his 4th separate injury this season (metatarsal fracture in the off season which was probably a contributing factor to the plantar fasciitis and the minor hamstring strain he suffered later in the season), he's only been injured on 2 other occasions for the rest of his 8 year career.
Jod has stated on several occasions (others will back me up here), that Lucas is still "world class"

Best thing for flu is to sweat it out so make sure you play!

If you're playing defense always listen to your CB'S. Try not to rush things when you get the ball and most of all have fun!!

I actually played RB and a little at CB in the practice match and I usually play wide right in our small sided matches at training so it will be a little different playing in the middle. Yeah my plan is to just listen as much as possible, there are some pretty old, experienced guys in the team so I'm sure they'll help me out with my positioning and just instructing me on what to do.

Haha yeah that's the plan. It won't be pleasant though. Thanks though, I'll definitely make sure I enjoy it.

How long have you played footy for?
Pretty much all my life. I started when I was 8 and I'm now 24 and I played footy every single year except for one. But I was sick of it last season and I've wanted to play soccer for a while so I decided to make a change.

Congrats mate. Hope you enjoy it. You should enjoy going shoulder to shoulder when challenging for the ball. Just don't do it off the ball :) :)

Or make sure the ref doesn't see it.

Liverpool and Spurs supporters should have a listen to the latest poddy. :)
Thoroughly enjoyable so far. I do agree fwiw about our CM depth in particular. I would keep 1-2 max and sell/loan the rest.

Looks like you'll be facing us moomba in the youth FA cup.

3-1 Chelsea over Blackburn
Yeah. Saw that. Always a top quality matchup. Any idea of the dates yet?

If you are playing the holding role, just make sure you aren't adventuring too far forward. Hold your position just in front of the defenders. Just help tick the ball over from left to right. Play the way you are facing. If someone tells you turn then do so otherwise believe that there is a man right up your arse. Don't be afraid to bounce a pass back to whoever game it to you.

If the wing backs have it, Make sure you offer inside. If you don't get it switch with another midfielder and take his spot and repeat. Make sure you check your runs too. Don't just lead for the ball, start the other way then have a quick turn and ask for the ball.

You should let your coach know so he has a backup plan incase you break down after 30 or 40 mins, or less. If you want to play the role properly I would advise to be running a lot. That position is all about linking and supporting, getting up on fullbacks to help them with / without the ball, giving opponents no space in central mid, you'll be busting your ass even if you don't help attack.

just ****ing two foot everyone kangaspurs dont let the forum refs be wet blankets.

two footed, studs up and make so you have a spit or two. challenge some blokes to fight in the car park too. and snot the ref.

make an impression.
