So many people not putting on their lights today when it was a struggle to even see the car in front during the worst of it.

Speed is bad, using your phone while driving is bad, drink driving is bad. Etc.

Whatever happened to the old 'if the streetlights are on you should have your headlights on'?

Darwin driving in the wet season taught me well.

Furphy is shit.
Is it? While yeah for 50 bucks there's better there's also a lot worse, and for a while that was the joke with my mates: 'Furphy, yeah, it's not too bad.' When it first came out it was like $40 a carton and it was so popular it wasn't in any bottle shops for a while. Ultimately it's just like another Coopers but with a tiny bit less bitterness and some more lingering sweetness. It was good value for $13 for six and I think Dan's did it for 12... yeah, that's not too bad.

(Better than that shit Single Fin anyway. Gage Roads mostly suck. I remember when the green one competed with Coopers pale ale and it was retailing for 15 or so for six and within a few months was more than Coopers... saw it recently and it was twenty-one-****ing-dollars. Unreal. Low alcohol, not macro-not-craft shit.)

Single Fin > Furphy, neither are particularly special.

What is Furphys?
Beer that Little Creatures brought out in Victoria from the Geelong brewery when they sold out. Probably came out about two years ago, maybe nearly three. In a VB style hand grenade and with the sort of state or origin design. It's basically just like Coopers, but with less fuzz, less immediately flavour, less mouth feel. It's not bad. Just went national the other week.

It's on tap for $7/pint in some places.
That's great value. The other week I had a solo after work, ducked into the National (don't ask...) and saw Furphy and assumed it'd be less than about 12 bucks. It was uh, 12 bucks. Jeez. That place has gone downhill incredibly. When it opened it was pretty nice and very exciting to see a classic old venue nicely refurbished but now it's like a suburban tavern and has all the hallmarks of a shitful: crusty old barmaids in their 70s, arrogant backpackers, bouncers on every door, posters everywhere out the front and in the toilets, expensive tap beers, the food is bad now, and it gets just about the worst crowd with your pissed wanna be fighters after 10pm, hi-vis on the weekend bogans at lunch, and drunken 40-year old slappers on a Sunday. Then there's their insistence on having a bloke play bad acoustic guitar every day...

Yeah the beer of the month is something I don't mind about Perth. It's in lieu of a happy hour but happy hours are what, a few mixers and a a stock tap beer anyway? The Feddy is doing Brooklyn for $7 at the moment. But that's a weird pub because 70% of it is good and 30% is terrible, which applies to the building inside and its design and upkeep and the furniture, and the people who go there, and the price, and the food. All over the place but just decent enough you go back.

Happy hour is a thing in the city but not so much in other areas, not that I ever really have a beer from 5-6pm anywhere else. Bobeche do $7 pints (plus mixers and wine IIRC) from 5-6 then from 6 onwards the same pint is $14. Good spot for a couple of warm up pints but **** hanging around when the only beer is $14.
