Back in the days they attracted real talent like Sammy Davis Jnr and Michael Jackson. Today.. Larry Emdur!
Pffft who needs the king of pop and a rat pack member when you can get the 5th and 6th placed finisher from the last series of X factor or whatever crap reality show 7 has

Telethon is still a thing? I don't think I've taken the slightest bit of notice of it in about 30 years.

Forgot it was even on, used to be a big deal back when Perth only had 2 commercial tv stations and there was bugger all else to watch.

I flipped channels midnightish and stopped on it for a second. Kate Langbroek was talking so that was a large NOPE from me and changed again.

Had a good night one Telethon where some friends and I went to The Amplifier till about 2am, got hammered, walked to the convention center and sobered up there. They pull a decent crowd that time of night.

It's for such a good cause, having benefited myself from PMH when I was a kid, and now having friends kids having to use it. It's kinda a shame they're not pulling the international talent anymore, but it's great that the WA community is still rallying around it

I can remember Telethon from the early 90s and they always used to make $2-3m. This was consistent until the mid 2000s when they suddenly made $6m, then $10m, then last year was $25m. It's wonderful for the cause, but 90% o the money comes from corporate donations and people like Andrew Forrest wanting to get their name in lights. I don't even remember the last time I watched it, but it feels different when it's not really about people ringing up and giving their $10 and so on.

I am also a bit suspicious, particularly now that the economy has had a downturn, that corporate donors are donating to Telethon at the expense of other organisations they would've donated to before.

BALKAN, are there any good Balkan bakeries (or restaurants) in Perth?

I've got a hankering for a good burek.

Cafe Sultan in Coventry square markets in Morley. Kings bakery in Balcatta.

Not great but they do the job if you're craving it.

Not really fair to Forrest who was an anonymous donor of huge amounts for a long time.

What's the total at?

They tend to leave their big donations towards the end usually don't they?

Hey Teriyakicat seems that fuel mistake lasted for 9 hours before it was noticed. According to the radio it was like Armageddon out there with people lining up for fuel. Apparently one guy filled his car and a trailer load of Jerry cans :D
