Yeah, other than completely replacing the rail line and opening up the foreshore they've done nothing.

The front area does look good but everything else still looks tired and old. The "mall" is a disgrace

The lack of approval for new businesses is the same now as it was 20 years ago - non existent. Restaurants struggle to stay open, nothing opens after 8 and even pubs aren't open every day. The place is stuck in a time warp and controlled by a few families - even the dome on the foreshore is owned by a former council member and apart from the Jaffa van at the northern end of the beach there are no other businesses down there and he had to fight tooth and nail and threaten law suits to stay there.

It's easy to call everyone racists in these towns, but it isn't a one way street. There are a lot of indigenous crew in these types of towns that aren't exactly easy to get along with. It's a real shame and not an easy situation to overcome.

But you can totally understand why a lot of the Noongar/Indigenous people don't really buy into our society, it isn't their culture and it has been forced onto them. It's actually pretty naive to think they should just submit and get on board with all of our western/euro laws.

Yeah, must admit I only go there about once a year. But I reckon it's a lot better than it used to be. We used to occy strap the cartons of export down before we drove through there!

Whenever it comes up, people suggest places like Kwinana and Port Hedland. No one wants to live there. Even the people that do don't want to.

If WA is/was ever going to have a second city it is/was going to be Geraldton or south of it.

WA would actually be better off if Bunbury was a city of 2-300,000 and Perth maxed out at 1-1.5m.

Mandurah would be pushing 100k but it isn't a hub for a variety of industries.

Mandurah is too close to Perth to be its own city. People live in Mandurah and commute to Perth on a daily basis.

Yeah, Gero would be the first location. But aren't places like Gero, Bunbury and Albany already technically cities?? At of the day it comes down to work being available, you can't live somewhere without work. And in WA we only really have mining, fishing and agriculture outside of Perf. Hard to build a decent city around any of those.

Same as Geelong compared to Geelong, the population proportions are similar . Also it is outside the defined border of the greater Perth Metro area.

Oh and on a more serious note, Karratha is the most recent city set up as a service centre, for Hammersly Iron I think originally. Unless fly in fly out and those huge work camps become a thing of the past there is no reason why any other city would significantly grow when people would rather come back to the established amenities in Perth or even the eastern states capitals.

Don't get me started about Peel. I'm about 1 beer away of firing up the Freo board about what a terrible arrangement it is and how we should be aligned with the Freo clubs...haha
