I don't like the monogram, it is pretend history retcon. Unfortunately the Port Adelaide logo is a creation of the 90s, like it or not. Prior to that we had the magpie circle.

The original guernsey revealed at The Entertainment Centre back in 95 had an all black back and looked great. Unfortunately they introduced the white number panel and it didn't look as good (pay attention those wanting the same done to our current home masterpiece) but was still superior compared to the sbs and lightning bolt.

A number panel would look better on the back in black because if the amount of black would make a contrast. The magpie wing Guernsey already had a decent amount of teal and white on the front so it could get away with a black back IMO.

It's not a retcon and it's not trying to be. It's just a simple and easily recognisable logo that fits really well on a hat
I never said it was trying to be, I just think it is obviously a design to appear to historical in aesthetic. Remember when we bagged the camries, and rightly so! For their pretend monogram/logo?

It wouldn't stop me from buying merch featuring it, I just wouldn't like to see it proliferated to a point where it begins to challenge the Power logo, our actual official historical logo.

I whole heatedly agree, our history is the Magpie with two Flags and the Circular Magpie logo. Our current logo is fine and was born in the 90's, very happy to keep the fist in front of the Black and White stripes and the Teal Yolk/Sky. However the PA monogram is timeless, it doesn't have a ton of history but neither did the circular Magpie logo when we took that on as our icon. PA monogram should be kept for Merch only, I could easily see it being as synonymous as the NY Yankees, Boston Redsox or LA Dodgers monograms. Even The best known fashion brands have a simple monogram to recognise their product, Louis Vuttion, Gucci, Chanel, Heck even Volkswagon. I would love in 15 years to see a simple T-shirt with PA monogram on it, known anywhere in Australia! How much for the Hilltop Hoods to make their next song film clip decked in PA Monogram Caps, Shirts and Letterman Varsity Jackets? Sticky Fingers? Jet? Wolfmother? Courtney Barnett? Guy Sebastian? Timmy Trumpet? You catch my drift!

Any AFL official media should be our official Logo, all pop culture to be PA, win the war by saturation! However this will nit happen with New Era holding licensing to said design and properties

u wot m8

Nah but it really doesn't have a retcon, faux-retro feel at all for me. It feels natural where it fits into the Magpies/Power/PAMonogram logo pantheon.
BANG!

Now we are one club again, Power in one Competition, Magpies in another, the PA Monogram would be absolutely ideal to play two teams known as two nicknames under the one banner. Dead argument though, New Era own the rights to its use!

I'd love to see the exact wording of the patent upon putting the uppercase letters P and A together in a monogram. o_O

I would say we need to change it 20%, however any variation just wouldn't be the same! we nailed it first time around...

Will be pissed if Adelaide, Collingwood, Carlton, Fremantle, Hawthorn, St.Kilda trump us and sport a monogram logo, or develop one to dominate Australian pop culture over the next few years!
Carlton? A monogram? Nah we're safe

Speak for yourself. I'm 46 and I don't cringe at the stuff I'm wearing when I dig out old photos. Must just be you.

Same. If you happened across a photo of me from ten years ago, it's likely I'd be wearing the same thing.

Wouldn't be a patent. It's just how copyright works.

Unfortunately the rights are owned by the person/company that executed the design not the company that commissioned the design. It's beholden upon the commissioner of the work to negotiate rights transfer as part of the deal.

I'm guessing someone didn't read the fine print when putting the original order through.

For all the noise made in this thread, this is probably the idea they'll end up putting into practice.

Someone should post this on the Facebook page.

New Era own what?
The letters P and A next to each other? Bullshit! I have a cousin called Peter Allen and he has always been known as PA.He goes for the Crows but I am sure he would let you put his initials on a hat.

So I guess the Yankees don't own copyright to the NY monogram either?

Given the club commissioned ISC to make those varsity jackets with the monogram on the tit last year and they were promptly told by New Era "uh uh, no more", I think you're guessing right.

We already had one of those foisted upon us as part of the AFL Approved tripe 5 or 6 years ago. It was putrid. This isn't.
