Opinion The Positive thread

There is no correlation between stats and success.
Our great game is measured by the 1%'ers, those things that don't go in the book but really do matter.

The top 4 sides on the AFL ladder are also the top 4 in regards to uncontested possession.

No correlation at all?

The Port midfield killed us with their run and spread moreso than the work in close. Priddis wouldn't have made one bit of difference.
We have struggled for a few years to put the brakes on when teams get run-ons, and I think it's because we don't win clearances at centre bounces. We need a strong inside mid to stand up and set the tone for the rest of the side when opposition teams get momentum.

No Nic Nat at centre bounces exacerbates that tenfold. When Kerr's being tagged we don't have anyone in the clinches to dive into packs and get the hard ball. Priddis can do it, but I don't think he can do it on cue when the game's on the line.

We really need a clearance machine who can inspire the team and wrest back the momentum, otherwise teams will always be confident they can pile on goals against us the minute we drop our heads...

I think the problem is the set up from stoppages.

When we don't win clean possession, rarely is their a secondary ball up, rarely is their a "break even" situation, we are geared to win the clearance, not to defend, when we don't win, the opposition burst into open space and have and space to hit their targets.

Burns needs to start to realise without NicNat, the exits need to be covered, to not always plough forward, but to find lateral escape routes.

Right now we are being burnt from stoppages, we get scored against so heavily from stoppages.

I would normally say Kerr, but looks like he got a super-heavy tag in the second half on the weekend :/ need another!!!!

Nic Nat is back baby, wooooo! First time I have smiled in regards to footy since the season began. I don't even mind if they give him another week to build fitness I am just glad he is back as a test.

The mods should shut down this thread, its insulting to WCE fans.

Positive is nice, denial is stupid.
You mean as opposed to the negative/venting threads? There is 1 positive thread amongst the multitude of negative threads, surely you can just let it slide?

Not you Jarlcorbz. I don't mind the negative threads, people are allowed to vent. ;)

Port having a fresh Grey in as sub carved us up at just the right time, with us having our sub (Cripps) playing most of the game.
Positives; JK fit & fine, Sinclair promising, Shuey, Mitch Brown kept westhoff quiet 13 D & 1 point,
+ apart from Priddis KO no injuries :)

Absolutely agree. We are absolutely being burnt off at the stoppages, and when Port in particular started to get a run on we completely failed to nullify them in this area.

I don't think the actual generating of clearances is an issue as much as is being said around here - we are the second ranked side for clearances in the league - although the quality of clearances remain a concern.

Perhaps with a more complete midfield over the next few weeks we'll see improvements. I think our side also misses McGinnity.

That's exactly what happened dajes.

On even better news, although I can't possibly think what would be better news than anything about Dalziell, :footy: Glass got off and there should be an almost full team to select on the weekend. :thumbsu:
