The Swans have a problem with McVeigh. Judging by the games this season, the guy is not improving (as expected from players that have established themselves in the senior Swans team) but going backwards. Unlike his mate Malceski, who's gone from strength to strength and found a niche in the team.

I feel the problem is not with McVeigh but with Roos and the team tactics. To get into the Swans midfield, first while you could die wondering until you get your turn, you then have to be able to do the dirty work like tagging, scrapping and tackling like a mofo just like the J Bolton's and Kirk's. Even Davis has to do this or he gets dropped.

While Malceski has been able to slot in the backline and has been spared much of the work of the Swans clones in the centre, McVeigh has had to tag the Judd's and best opposition midfielders. I feel for the bloke. Its not what he is suited to. Its not where his skills are best utilised. He is being wasted and his performance is showing this.

I hope Crouch can still be used and that he is not ready to be sent to the scrap heap just yet. It could be a blessing in disguise for McVeigh.

The problem with McVeigh is that he's pretending to be an AFL midfielder when he has the disposal skills of an amateur hack. Needs to make his possessions count then the athletic and stamina skills will take care of the rest.

One thing I've noticed about the younger players in this Roos system is that they all come into the side with very team orientated games. Sometimes it seriously costs them in the eyes of a lot of fans. IMHO Macca has become one of our more important run with players over the last 12 mths. His endurance is a great asset and he does have the pace to find some room. His goal kicking lets him down, but he's not really in the side for that.

For sure. McVeigh has been rewarded for working hard on the defensive side of his game. Everyone forgets that he's been transformed from a flashy outside **** to a hard working tagger. That in itself takes some talent. I'm not saying he's a champion player but he takes pressure of Kirk and Bolton so that they can play a bit more freely. It's a team game and he's rewarded for being a team player.

My main concern with McVeigh is his decision making under pressure. His disposal is effective, but he does shank a fair few kicks.

Luke Ablett had similar problems early on as well, and you would watch him take an age to make a decision with the football, and he'd get often get pinged for holding the footy quite a bit.

I too, would like to see McVeigh just to be unleashed, because I believe he's a few good games off gaining the needed confidence required at this level.

Give McVeigh his dues he is playing senior AFL. His problem is he is about a 60% footballer. That's about a C+ maybe or just a C. He gets a lot of his KPI's wrong.

You it's a pity AFL players are not paid based on KPi's. It would really change how some of them think and perform.

Even though I don't like him, I can't fault his defensive efforts,etc.

My biggest problem is his disposal skills. He also can't kick for goal to save his life.

He reminds me of young Amon few years ago. Amon improved his goalkicking skills though and became a gun player IMO.

He had a good consolidating year last year but has done close to nothing so far this year. At the moment he looks completely devoid of confidence in every aspect of his game.

I thought his endurance and pressure skills were enough to get him a berth for the last year or so. Not sure what's happened to his goal kicking. He was a pistol in front of goal early in his career. Not sure what's happened to that.

I'm not writing him off yet, though.
