I smoothed it out with one of those flattening tools, but I would say raking it is good enough. Just make it as flat as you can. No idea if bumps change much, as I got rid of them just in case :p

Finished. Just gotta hope it takes.

Have a debate for uni next week. Our team's topic is "female sport and females in sport have enough media attention and don't need more", of which we are 'for'. Sadly, we are in a pretty awkward position as every point we make it seems to leave us open to being sexist. Anyone got any ideas?

They do have enough attention.

They are clearly inferior athletes as a general rule.

Whats so difficult?

Well the fact is, we have four members, we have to speak for three minutes each, and we need to come up with more points than the one you noted.

That's what's so difficult.

Supply/demand. Sport is commercial. It's not profitable for media outlets to give them more attention. If they were given equal attention, there would be a heap of economic problems resulting.

The Olympics. Biggest sporting event in the world. They get equal coverage at least. Why do they need more than equal? Ditto tennis grand slams.

People want to watch the best athletes play. As a result of genetics, this happens to be men.

Maybe go the sex angle. More media attention would only result in sportswomen getting more overtly sexualised, which isn't good for women's sport.

Thank you.

Ah I see. Thanks for the info. But how am I supposed to use that info to impress the strumpet? (not that it's a date)

Didn't know you were an Opera fan iluvparis!

At pre-dinner - tell her what the big hits are - then when cloud claps loudly at this moment in the opera she will think your are a cultured genious.

To be honest i've got three assignments on the go plus this debate so haven't given it much thought. Thought BigFooty would be a good place to get the brain ticking.

Why would you EVER think that?

Is being a douche on the internet and being a douche in real life mutually exclusive?

I would make the point that a lot of the media attention women's sport receives actually has a negative impact on its development. Female athletes are pigeonholed as sex objects or lesbians, the questions they get asked in interviews are demeaning, their bodies receive excessive scrutiny, their personal lives are often judged more harshly than male athletes.

Media attention is only a good thing in sport if it promotes the sport and leads to a positive image of it / more funding. A lot of the time the media approach to women's sport reinforces its status as a sideshow that isn't supposed to be taken seriously.

I'd point to things like the Lingerie Football League, the way the media alternately worshipped and then demonised Jana Pittman, the inevitable nude shoots in Black + White every time the Olympics come around, the gossip-mag-like reporting of catfights in the Australian swimming team, the way a women's sport receives attention inversely proportional to the size of their uniforms (which are often deliberately skimpier than male counterparts) etc.

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/topless...rt-women-in-sport-awards-20141014-115vrv.html Another example of the objectification/sexualisation of women ironically at an event designed to celebrate their achievements in sport rather than their sexuality.
