As a 22yo (nearly 23) do I really need private health cover? As I'm not a student anymore it doesn't come under my parents one and it costs me over $100 a month. Had it for a year and haven't used it once

yeh wouldnt mind the answer for this

i fell off my parents because I earn too much $$

never bothered to get it due to costs

It's definitely a luxury more than anything for most people. It's not a 'need'. I've never had it.

May consider when I get a Full time job, but definitely not now.

It's cray. So far spent over 1k on something I haven't used once. Parents insist I should have it though
At your age I would be pretty reticent. The public hospital system is still pretty good too, I was in the RAH for eight days with a ruptured appendix, and as my mate's dad who is a senior surgeon there said, the accommodation is only so-so, but the service is excellent.

Paying about $97 a month for mine and I have no idea why. No plans to stop though. #Imasucker

Never had hospital cover ever. Had extras in my 20s but found it wasn't good value so I ditched it.

I'm in my mid-20s, and have had health insurance with Bupa (Platinum Extras with Pharmacy Saver and ambulance cover, no hospital cover) for two years now, after growing up without private health cover (parents got rid of theirs before I was born). Similar cost to what you're paying. Only time I've actually used it is when I got glasses earlier this year (got a massive discount on frames and lenses), and a couple of times have gotten discounts on prescriptions from the chemist. Feel like I should take more advantage of it for chiro, massage, physio, etc., because I could actually get some value from that. Also get some extra coverage and benefits after certain tenure as well, and get a bit of a tax rebate for it (as well as getting it cheaper for signing up before the age of 30), but it's starting to feel like a bit of an unnecessary expense every single fortnight.

Would be good if you actually got some sort of discount/rebate for general doctor's visits with private health cover. If you work in a job that requires medical certificates for every day of absence, and you don't have any sick days/hours left, and then you have to pay $36-$37 for a doctor's visit (after the Medicare rebate), because bulk billing doctors are hard to find and/or get a spur-of-the-moment appointment with, a single day off (when you are genuinely unwell, and just need a day or two to recover) can set you back a fair way, and turn into a real hassle as well.

Is there actually any point in blowing your nose? My nose just blocks itself again 2 minutes later and I need to blow it again. I feel like I should just save my energy.

Stick a tissue up there.

Works like a nasal tampon

Stick an actual tampon up there. You'd look stupid with a tissue hanging out of your nose.

I'm not sure about that...
