I've decided I want to learn to make a watch.... Is this a stupid idea?

I have done a bit of googling on the idea and think it may be feasible but am not overly sure.

Will it be prohibitively expensive? I don't want to need to buy thousands of dollars worth of equipment just to make a handful of watches for family and friends. I expect there will be some sort of equipment to buy but I'd like to keep it to under $500, plus then the cost of parts, and then obviously the time required to learn and build one... Am I going to go through loads of parts (and $$) before I successfully make my first watch. I have no idea whether $500 is even in the ball park of what I'm going to need.

I have good motor skills and hand eye co-ordination, but thanks to years of tearing up the weekend I don't have the steadiest of hands. This might be an issue.

To paraphrase Marge Simpson of all the ideas I've had, I think this is somewhere in the middle...

I think it's a great idea for what it's worth.

How much do you sacrifice for your partner if they really want to do something you have absolute 0 interest in?

Missus wants to go to some market in Bendigo for a weekend. I ******* hate markets.
Why?

Find something about the trip that might interest you - stop off at a winery? Or that brewery near Woodend? Go to a local footy game? I dunno what your interests are.
If you can't find anything at all then do it anyway, and get her to accompany you next time you want some company to do something she has little interest in.
Most good relationships are built on supporting each other - either sacrificing and doing things together that one of you doesn't like or allowing each other the space/time to do your preferred thing alone or with friends.

If you give a shit about her you will go with her. If it makes your partner happy, then that's what you do. Unfortunately that's what a relationship is, doing things you don't necessarily like to do but do because you want to make your partner happy.
