Didn't know where else to post this so here goes:

After moving us from Brisbane to Melbourne at the start of this year, my folks have finally found two houses that they love equally and would be happy in either one. So they have given us kids a say and we are having trouble agreeing on which one to take.

House #1 - massive backyard with huge in-ground pool, spa, sundeck on top of garage and two separate family/living room areas BUT - we would have to share bedrooms (me and my older bro in one and the younger bros who are twins in another).

House #2 - we each get a room of our own (though pretty small) BUT - virtually no yard at all and only one living room/family area.

I am leaning towards House #1 tbh.

Any advice?

House 1. Just build/ convert a room to another bedroom.

Apart from maybe once a week in the Summer, you won't be using the in ground pool or the spa, and they'll be a bitch to maintain and also will be costly too.

You'll be spewing later for your own room too.

I'd go with house #2 unless there is a high possibility you can just create more rooms.

Maybe like a little guest house.

Pools are good for three months a year. As TFB said, expensive to maintain and do nothing for 9 months.

I remember you saying you're 15 – take the house with the backyard man. You'll appreciate it, you're young enough to still deal with sharing a room too.

I wouldn't underrate having your own room though Gibbs.
Backyards are great, although you don't need a big one if you want to have some mates over on a Saturday night for a few beers in a couple of years time.

I couldn't imagine not having a room of my own at 15

What good is a backyard? Maybe for a big ol 18th but yeah its a bit useless after you turn 12

damn its about 50/50 - I suppose I am thinking of summers (coming from a place where you can pretty much be out in the pool every day after school - we are going through withdrawals big time) more than anything else and the pool is massive.

I get the whole thing about privacy and the like but we are pretty close and already share a bathroom so we aren't really shy about being in each other's space and such. We just don't wanna stuff up the decision because we won't be moving again and there will be NO renos lol.

House #1 is in Cheltenham
House #2 is in Caulfield

My older bro will be joining the Army after school, he is in Year 11 this year so it is likely I will pretty much have the room to myself within the next couple of years.

House #1 - yep, there is a second family room that my Dad (is a builder) could turn into a bedroom possibly but that want be happening for at least two years for "budgetary reasons."

I'd probably go house one if you're sure your brother will be in the Army within two years.

Sharing a room as you turn 18 would be real weird.

Pools in Melbourne are a bit useless.
For the few weeks of the year you would use it, the beaches here are better.

Having a pool gets old pretty fast. You won't use it as much as you think.

The burbs are both good though, I guess Caulfield is closer to Monash.

They're pretty handy from November through till March.

Having room outside also comes in handy for when you want to have a whole heap of people over.

I'd rather drink with my mates around a small table out back and nail a bird hard in my own room than swim in a pool with friends and have to do it quietly when my brothers out though.
