Well, besides the fact that has been already noted on this board that I went out for beers with the lads off here on my 10th wedding anniversary, the card i got for my wife for it also said Happy Birthday.....
When I grow up I want to be like you haha

Reidy speaks the truth.

He had beers with the boys on his 10th wedding anniversary.

Legend.
And I just asked the misses if I got anniversary sex....must have been memorable, I cannot remember. She assures me I did.... i think she is lying and 'owes me one', especially for the thoughtful Happy Birthday card i got.....

We're looking at buying a new car, our first ever (i.e. we have only owned used cars in the past). And after a couple of weeks of research and a bit of early due diligence we are closing in on the model we want. Then comes the work getting the best deal. What a process!! All the car ads I used to ignore I read avidly. As we drive around I study the passing traffic often thinking "Once someone was so impressed by that car they signed a contract. WTF were they thinking?"
Thank heavens we aren't trying to trade in our old family bus Magna (instead passing it on to our daughter). that's one less hassle in all this.
Today Mrs Powerstufff and I had a couple of test drives and that was illuminating. I always thought that they were a wanky bit of the process, like sniffing wine at a restaurant. But you really do see differences in cars when you drive several in the same day. I was also impressed with the stuff Mrs Powerstufff noticed, I had this cliche view that I would make all the important observations but my wife picked up all sorts of practical stuff and pretty well deleted one strong contender from the list as a result.
Now I'm sitting here looking at pictures and reviews of our probable new car and wishing it was in the driveway.

I could never justify a new car purely due to the immediate depreciation once you drive it out....
Problematic for sure. But we keep our cars for a long time and arguably this might be our last as I have no intention of driving once I reach retirement age. So as our finances finally allow it we feel we can justify it. However I am looking at near-new demonstrators too, there are some fairly good deals there as well.

.... What models u looking at?
Mazda 3 (narrowed down to MAXX Sport variant), Mitsubishi Lancer (not narrowed down), Hyundai Veloster (GDI variant), Holden Cruze (turbo 1.4L SRi variant). I have to say the Cruze is a real surprise, great to see such a classy car made here and if we can get a good price it will probably win out

Cars only need to do three things IMO. 1) not break down, 2) have airconditioning, 3) have a rear windscreen wiper.

our last 6 cars we have bought from the government auctions, vt berlina, 2 magnas, 2 taragos and a camry, best deals in adelaide if you can risk not being able to take them for a test drive. the last few we bought via their online bidding system

Yeah, we bought our last car (the family bus Magna) from a dealer, but he'd bought it from the government auctions as part of a job lot as it turns out. He told us that as he was clearing the last few of them at close to cost and it helped clinch the sale. In any case the previous ower (Dept of Main Roads or something similar) was listed on the paperwork.
This time I was actually going to go to the government auctions myself and buy direct until my wife said she wanted to buy a new car.

If you plan on keeping the car a long time consider the Cruze Diesel. Modern turbodiesels drive well and over the long term are far more economical in terms of running and servicing.

I love our (wifes) 2012 Territory diesel and it is as quick as any other 6 cylinder car off the mark and nowhere near as thirsty as my VX Commodore

Also please don't discount asbestos as a killer, my wifes aunty passed away last year from lung cancer which occured 6 months after she pulled up asbestos tiles on her kitchen floor, ******* cancer

We've had some renovations done here, wanted to have the old kitchen flooring redone.

The people who were going to rip up the old flooring arrived at 8.00AM, they left at 8.05AM saying they weren't going to touch the stuff that was on the floor. Had to have it tested and found out it was asbestos backed crap. The time to finally have it removed, the precautions that had to be taken plus the extra cost were all substantial.

All for what we thought was old lino kitchen flooring (it was there when we bought the house)

yeah the aunty was having her kitchen renovated and the renovator said it was up to her to do the floor as he wouldn't do it, so unwittingly she pulled it up herself, at christmas she had a nasty cough by august she had passed away. We have a family friend that removes asbestos for a living :( if only she had been advised correctly.

about what km's do you get out of a tank on that?? have alkways been curious as to head down the diesel car path but the cost of diesel always puts me off compared to what the increased economy would be
