If Pakistan capitulated like the poms did after tea today, they would be accused of match fixing. Thats how pathetic the poms were this arvo.

The second season of Breaking Bad is probably the most well planned and intricately plotted season of television there has been.

Embrace the slooooooow, I say.

So much this. Season 2 is an absolute masterclass in exposition and pacing

OK work pants..... I dont like you and you dont like me !

Moe: Listen, I don't like you and you don't like me. But we both wanna stop Homer from shooting the turkey.
Lisa: You don't like me? I like you!
Moe: You do? Then I like you too! Here have a towelette.

For those still watching Breaking Bad for the first time and listen to podcasts, I'd highly recommend downloading the BB Insider Podcasts. There is one for each episode from the start of season 2 till the finish and is solely a podcast for those that have worked on the show. Each podcast ranges from 30 mins to an hour, Vince Gilligan is on every single one and they regularly have Brian Cranston, Aaron Paul, the directors of each episode and the editors on to discuss the choices they made for each particular episode.

Its highly worth a listen and really complements the show well

With Breaking Bad, I think I'm in the minority here, but because I watched it after it had finished, watching episodes close together had a bad effect on me. The first 3 and a half seasons were almost unbearable - especially season 2, when I genuinely hated EVERY character on the show, and season 3 which was mind-numbingly annoying to the point I almost quit. Season five made the whole slog TOTALLY worth it however and I realised that for me at least, the first few seasons needed to be spaced out so it felt like there was some space and time progression, considering it's ALLLL about the journey (including both the entertaining AND boring bits).

Without Saul Goodman, I don't know if I could have finished it. Glad I did.

I'll check them out at some stage, cheers for that.

Did anyone see Anthony Hopkins' letter to Brian Cranston ??

Dear Mister Cranston.
I wanted to write you this email – so I am contacting you through Jeremy Barber – I take it we are both represented by UTA . Great agency.
I’ve just finished a marathon of watching “BREAKING BAD” – from episode one of the First Season – to the last eight episodes of the Sixth Season. (I downloaded the last season on AMAZON) A total of two weeks (addictive) viewing.
I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant!
Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen – ever.
I know there is so much smoke blowing and sickening bullshit in this business, and I’ve sort of lost belief in anything really.
But this work of yours is spectacular – absolutely stunning. What is extraordinary, is the sheer power of everyone in the entire production. What was it? Five or six years in the making? How the producers (yourself being one of them), the writers, directors, cinematographers…. every department – casting etc. managed to keep the discipline and control from beginning to the end is (that over used word) awesome.
From what started as a black comedy, descended into a labyrinth of blood, destruction and hell. It was like a great Jacobean, Shakespearian or Greek Tragedy.
If you ever get a chance to – would you pass on my admiration to everyone – Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Aaron Paul, Betsy Brandt, R.J. Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Steven Michael Quezada – everyone – everyone gave master classes of performance … The list is endless.
Thank you. That kind of work/artistry is rare, and when, once in a while, it occurs, as in this epic work, it restores confidence.
You and all the cast are the best actors I’ve ever seen.
That may sound like a good lung full of smoke blowing. But it is not. It’s almost midnight out here in Malibu, and I felt compelled to write this email.
Congratulations and my deepest respect. You are truly a great, great actor.
Best regards
Tony Hopkins.

With Breaking Bad, I think I'm in the minority here, but because I watched it after it had finished, watching episodes close together had a bad effect on me.

I had a similar experience. Certainly some boredom throughout the middle part. The end was very satisfying though. Unlike most others, I did find myself cheering Walt on. Maybe I'm a sociopath - but I hope I would have different reactions to a TV character and a real life scenario.

Overall, I like The Wire and Game of Thrones better, but this is up there.

The Wire & Sopranos still ahead of BB for me, but it sits pretty comfortably in 3rd.

I found myself cheering Walt on for a fair bit of the series. What I loved about the character development was the fact that I went through fazes of liking, and disliking, Walt and Jessie. There wasn't a similar theme for why, but I found myself switching between who I was rooting for.

And the amount of instances where if they had only taken another couple of hours to wait instead of acting rashly, things could have gone a lot more smoothly.

I loved season 2 of BB. In fact I'd say its close to the best season.

Really? Apart from some amazing moments (which is how I'd describe the first 3 and a half seasons... a chore of a show that is sprinkled with all time TV moments), there's nothing amazing memorable about the progression of the story, and the characters... oh dear.

Walt was being a dick to everyone and making terrible decisions "for his family".
Then whenever you see his family, they're total dicks to him. I didn't want him to help them anymore. Screw them.
In fact everyone started being a dick to Walt. Jesse was an ultra dick when Walt was just trying to help him and his mrs was an awful person.
Hank is at his most dick-ish and they tried to add a layer of depth to him that didn't work at all for me (his spazzing out all the time).
The whole second cell phone thing was like a drill into my brain. In fact the whole show was littered with these ridiculous conveniences (even in the fantastic final season) that just made me groan. After all that lying he just blurts it out cos he's a bit doped up? Piss off.
Ted's introduced, who is a dick throughout the length of the show.

It's all worthwhile to the end result though, and I'm sure would be far more bearable upon repeat viewings, because of where each character progresses to. Jesse in particular.

If it wasn't for Saul Goodman's introduction halfway through... gee whiz. I needed SOMEONE to root for and Bob Odenkirk is the MAN.

I was pro-Walt. I bought into what he was doing right to the end even though I know I shouldnt have. An outstanding anti-hero along the same lines as Tony Soprano.

I think there is massive progression in the story in season 2. Huge.

I just love Bryan Cranston man, he is amazing through the whole series. In fact all key characters are.
I especially love "model guy" as I call him. Tyrus Kitt is apparently the characters actual name for anyone who can't guess who i mean.

especially season 2, when I genuinely hated EVERY character on the show

Yeah I found this with season 2, which i've only just finished watching.

The only characters I liked in S2 were Hank and Jesse, and Jesse was probably the character I hated most in S1.

I feel like Walt fell a little too quickly from loving family man to cold blooded bad guy, but the scene right near the end where Walt lets Jane die illustrated his character perfectly. He'll do whatever it takes to help those he cares about, and that includes basically murdering someone.

I'm swamped with homework and assignments this week but i'll definitely be investing in season 3 on the weekend. Really enjoying this show.
