Stargate Atlantis started brilliantly, the first 2 seasons had some genuinely dark moments that created a very stark tone and setting compared to SG1, but by season 3 it began to become an SG1 clone, but still very enjoyable. Last 2 seasons again were like SG1 recycled, and began to wear thin pretty quick unfortunately.

Haven't watched Universe properly, but will get around to it.
Universe was the opposite, started badly and picked up by the end of season 1.

The last half of season 2 was great which is bitter-sweet since it was cancelled afterwards.

Also it was pretty battlestar galactica ish

Yes. Really. I never watched any Sci-Fi until I was about 42. Used to scoff at it, was bored and the TV was on some Foxtel station, probably Sci-Fi station the first episode of Stargate Atlantis was on...I was to lazy to find the remote, so I watched it. Was hooked, watched all the Stargates(except the ship series), then all the Star Treks(even the space station one). And am contemplating Babylon 5. Come at me

Just finished Firefly + Serenity set and enjoyed it. Didn't think I would at first but they managed to make a Sci Fi and Western work together. Deserved more than 1 season IMO. At least the movie tied up the loose ends.

Bought Battlestar Galactica box set and will watch that next.

Just couldn't get into DS9. Voyager and TNG were great but DS9 was batshit boring, it really needed a stronger captain and more dynamic characters. A Jeri Ryan/Marina Sirtis wouldn't have hurt either.

I remember the pilot of Universe, when the marine and girl get busted doing the deed, and the camera quickly pans down to show him pulling his undies up and a completely soft willy inside those undies. About then I thought "oh great, it is trying to be edgy and gritty but failing pretty hard, unlike that mans appendage which can apparently penetrate a woman in a flaccid state"

It is all in the fundamentals, you know? The basics!

Anyway Robert Carlyle seemed great.

this is a good site if you want to find out where they sampled all the music from.

ive never been able to work out where they sampled the lead guitar immediately after the chorus from....sounds familiar, but i still dont know.

this is gold.

Have Serenity, but never watched the series. Battlestar Galactica? Tried watching it but couldn't understand half of it. The blonde piece...stunner of course but what was the point? DS9...yeah, I put off watching it...watched the whole series of Hogans Heroes instead, but when I did I found it quite different but watchable. There is too much 'human' and 'nineties' issues, but there is a bit of humour in it as well. The part where the Ferengi is lying in the bed waiting for his 'customer' is one of the funniest moments I have seen in a Sci-Fi

There's a zillion sci-fi shows out there. Quite a few start off well but fade, could name about 10 recently.
Babylon 5 was quite good for several series as it involved a world where different species had different cultures, morals etc and especially had different technologies. But it jumped the shark when it became ever more complex/dark by invoking a universe where all the 'normal' species where being manipulated by malevolent and virtually undetectable species such as the Shadows.
Serenity (the movie)/Firefly (the series) has been about the best thing in recent years IMO. Stargate never clicked for me, I am old enough to remember Time Tunnel and the dagginess of that show corrupts any attempts of mine to watch SG.
