I like how everyone from old rambling conspiricy theorist john from down the road to retail analysts knew masters was a stupid idea the minute it was announced. Woolworths deserve this for their stupidity. Feel for the staff.

I was looking forward to the one opening at Noarlunga.

I knew about 4 months ago. Went to one half the distance from us than the nearest Bunnings, tumbleweeds. Didn't have what I wanted, went on to Bunnings, bustling.

i bought a garden hose gun the other week from masters because the one they plonked in my area is like 500 metres closer than bunnings

r.i.p. masters i will never 5get you

The only time I ever went to Masters was when I was staying with my hippie stepbrother in a Melbourne heatwave and he had no ****ing air conditioning. Pedestal fans were going for like 8 bucks. Goodnight, sweet prince.

Masters main fail was the lack of advertising. There was literally none. The only time I knew they were here was when they sent out junk mail - much like the advertiser, never read it.

They only had 1 in Adelaide though. Unless you lived next to the airport there was always a Bunnings closer. I've got a mitre 10 near me that I try to support, but yeah sometimes you have to go to Bunnings because you know they'll definitely have whatever it is you want.

I actually really rated their stores. Brilliant presentation and good products, but taking on bunnings was always going to be suicide.

Masters main fail was that they absolutely neutered their supermarket division to pay for it.

I worked at Woolies for a long time and there was a lot of excitement coming from the top about Masters. Then it got more expensive than they thought, so they started to cut costs at supermarkets.

Woolworths, at the time, was absolutely dominant in supermarkets. They smashed Coles and nobody else was worth talking about. It was a fun place to work where quality of product and service was emphasized over everything and it worked. They really looked after their staff.

But by repeatedly cutting costs, they've got less staff, and a lower quality of staff. The staff they do have are worked to the bone and unhappy. The quality has dropped and the service has dropped. Coles has swooped in and taken over, and now with the opening of Aldi, Woolworths are in big trouble.

I try to go to to my local Mitre10 as much as possible, they are always friendly and gives good advice but Bunnings absolutely cannot be beaten, take that as a good or bad thing.

Woolworths main issue was they let Bunnings gain the monopoly, as soon as Bunnings started to gain traction they should have gone down the Masters road, not when Coles had the stranglehold.

Or it's just T20 and therefore a completely random crapshoot.

I really really tried to like the big bash but its so incredibly plastic and soulless. Teams are completely different every year and you can't develop a like for any players because they come and go so often. There is just nothing to it. A slog fest may be fun for kids but yeah...

I even enjoy the slogfest, but anyone thinking it's a sport is kidding themselves.
