Trump is a cockwobbler. This is not up for debate.

However, to think that a Clinton win is fait accompli underestimates the type of voters that will decide this election.

So your contention is that people act on how they feel in the voting booth, but they don't act on how they feel when faced with a poll on the same issue?

Righto.
This does happen, when the personal view conflicts with 'the public view', even if it's over the phone or polled in the street. However the effect would be much smaller than the difference between Trump's and Clinton's numbers.

I will be disappointed if Trump loses as I have gone and dug a survival shelter in the back yard and stocked it up for 30 years. What a waste.

At least you'll be prepared for the next blackout

Yep. 2 thirds of America is still White. It would appear that Trump has stitched up the poor/the racist/the insular and probably the Bible Belt/Pentacostals/Born again nutters. Will the middle/upper middle/wealthy classes still support him in numbers is the big question. The top 25% of American income earners who traditionally would always very much lean Republican still vote for Trump or will their better judgement get to them and decide that he is too much of a loose cannon? My gut feel is that these types will not vote for Trump or Hilary, they simply won't vote at all. There may be a record low turnout for this election and this is why I think Trump is still very much in the race. His supporters seem much more motivated.

So this prevents people from telling the truth to phone and online polls, I see...

Never said people aren't telling the truth in the polls. Just saying there are flaws in the major polls that have hidden the silent Trump voter

Wow, you are extremely easy to impress.

Trump did have to win the republican GOP first but yes, I'm impressed we've reached this point which 1 year ago I thought was impossible. I've changed my thinking because the evidence can no longer be ignored. Looking forward to the debate in just over an hour

Considering those allegations have been around forever didn't we already have an idea about that?

About the allegations yes but this is the first time Trump will be using them and they'll now be part of the national discussion.

I'm not for a moment saying rational arguments win elections, but that doesn't mean one can't or shouldn't make rational arguments when discussing elections. To place the two of them on anything even approaching an equal level of malevolence is ******* absurd.

If I told you Trump was using a similar strategy now that Obama used to defeat Clinton in 2008, would you believe it? I know it's not easy, but please accept that Trump is smart, took me a while but I got there.

The election won't be won on policy, it will be won on emotion. Actually, have we even discussed policy at all? It's all emotion now.

Hillary's tax policy is vague and the fear of a 65%-75% estate/inheritance tax is very real. Those top earners in the US may think twice if they fear a Hillary tax grab.

Trumps press conference 1 hour before the debate.

Alleged Bill Clinton rape victim "Bill Clinton r*ped me and Hillary threatened me". Shits getting real!

Record low turnout is a certainty, as they have the two most unpopular candidates in living memory. But there is still a significant gap in their relative unpopularity.

There just... are, by incantation? :)

The evidence for what?

...oh, that.

He's smart enough to have gotten this far. But he just doesn't have the numbers. All the grandstanding in the world won't change that.

The election won't be won on policy, it will be won on emotion.

No, it'll be won by the numbers of people who are voting, and Trump doesn't have enough of them.

That Trump has game

It may work out that way but it has been one hell of a ride. I still think he'll win though.

Looking forward to election night!

Yeah, I'm not so sure. Those in favour of Trump seem to be way more in favour of Trump than those that favour Hilary. The Christian nutters are a proven voting block who actually show up and vote. If he has them (which he probably does given his conservative stances/policies opposed to his decidedly non conservative actions) that's a guarantee of votes. Hilary isn't even that well liked amongst women, she will not get the Obama type love that he got from the Black community. How motivated are the angry White Males who've had years of a Black man running the show to not now let a woman run the show?

Lots of speculation, Hillary has a huge base of supporters. Women who didn't already favour her would surely be won over now post pussygate.

I'm still as fascinated to know why and as baffled with your explanations as I was 24 hours ago.

That's OK.

Influence, persuasion and emotion is where it is at. Trump has done it better than Clinton. Heck, Sanders did it better than Clinton.

Not nearly as motivated as they need to be (more accurately, nor nearly as numerous as they need to be), based on the available data.

But apparently we can safely ignore all available data this year because... reasons? :$

And if these women believe Hillary covered up Bill's alleged rapes?

Good for Hillary then, given that she's winning and all.

Husband of nominee, or the actual nominee. Which is worse? Plus as previously mentioned by.. raman, probably, the Clintons, particularly Bill, have already had dirt flung at them for decades. It won't have as much effect as Trump casually admitted to sexual assault owing to his status.

And Sanders lost to Clinton.
