The roo fronted up to him bruh and I wouldn't have risked losing any advantage but running away because those campaigners are fast.

Actually I definitely would have run but whatever.

The roo certainly got startled after being rushed by the strange flannel-draped creature but it didn't attack him. He could've easily just backed off.

Poor technique. Drops his guard and isn't close enough so makes contact at almost the limit of his reach. If the roo wasn't laughing so hard it probably would have dropped him.

It's got a bit of slap in it too akin to Ed Norton punching Tyler Durden for the first time. In the ear.

ITT debating the correct procedure for boxing a kangaroo.

IMO getting closer than his maximum reach would have been too dangerous.
Luckily, the roo was so flummoxed by the connection with it's head it was momentarily stunned.

NZ PM Jim Key resigns at the top of his game, after 8 years in the job. Bill English the current Treasurer will take over, Key has said he will vote for him, but a formal vote takes place on 12th December.

Shades of Hawke and Keating. Key was the populist, high poll ratings, loved sports always photographed with top NZ sports stars like Hawkie used to be, and English is the tough head kicker like Keating was, spending the PM's political capital to get things done. English doesn't have Keating's use of the language and anywhere as many quotable lines as Keating. I watched a fair bit of him about 3 or 4 years ago on APC channel on Foxtel on the NZ question time program. Unlike Hawkie, Key knew there is no point hanging to power for power's sake, and better to give it up as he reckons he can't see himself serving a full 4th term - which would start at next years November election, so better to go now give someone else a go rather than hang on. He reckons at a 4th election people would get sick of him - "I think one of the reasons why governments fail at that fourth-term hurdle so often is that the leader never wants to leave, everyone says 'I have seen all of this before, I have seen the video' and it is not new."

In his 8 years Key has dealt with 4 Oz PM's and Rudd doubled up.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said the resignation of his "very good friend" would be a loss to New Zealand and the world.

"I sent him one very short message, 'Say it ain't so, bro'," he said.

There was a spate of reasonably long term Labor Premiers who did this sort of thing a few years back - maybe that was after seeing the Hawke v Keating shitfight (or more likely factional heavies wanting their turn in the sun). Perhaps it's time for your Jay-man to sail off into the sunset...

Bracks was the one that came to mind when I was typing up my post as I reckon Keys is more a Bracks type, than Hawke, but Bracks never had a Keating or Bill English type deputy. John Brumby wasn't anything like them as treasurer. Beattie voluntarily went, as did Gallop but that was health related as was Jim Bacon in Tassie, think he had bad lung cancer from smoking. Pretty sure he died with 2 or 3 months of resigning. Rann was shoved out, but he fought back and delayed it for a year. Bob Carr had enough after 10 tough years and probably saw the BS coming down the pipeline from Obeid and co.

How long is it til your next state election? We've got ours coming up in March in WA and a CoG looks inevitable - probably too little time for a new Lib leader to make an impression, even if they could find anyone remotely popular.

early March 2018, so 2017 will all be about posturing for the election by both sides.

Rann won in late February 2002 - minority government stuck a national party member from Riverland into cabinet as Water Minister and sure up the numbers. Won a big victory in March 2006 and then only just scrapped home in March 2010 by a seat I think, but high profile ministers had 10-18% swings against them in their safe seats and Labor ran a successful marginal seat campaign and held on to 2 or 3 which they were supposed to lose. Basically straight after the election the talk was Rann would be dumped. In October 2010, a delegation went to Rann, headed up by Shoppies union and said you have to resign, he called their bluff and waited until October 2011 as wanted to wait until the BHP/Roxby Downs Indenture Bill was passed. The right decided to put in the left's Weatherill. The last state elections the Liberals got 53% of 2 party preferred vote but ran a shit marginal seat campaign. Plus their margin in bush electorates gets bigger and that doesn't help them with lower house seats. There has been a bit of talk if Weatherill will lead Labor to the next election. He has had a bad 3 months since the power failure, no to the nuclear dump idea by the citizens jury, the new hospital building issues, some train issues, deputy premier basically giving himself an Senior Counsel award etc. Cant see them winning a 5th term at this stage.

If you're not aware of CGP Grey, he is my personal favourite YouTuber at the moment and worth a binge.

His explanation of politics and power and the fanangling therein is exceptional.

This is a goodun, and explains why Trump is seemingly going against the very people that voted him in, hes removing key supporters, paradoxical, but sensible:

Also shows why the Federal Reserve and the IMF controls the US and not the President, since they control monetary policy.

Yeah, it definitely seemed that way, but seriously WTF even have one? Just a stupid idea. We elect politicians to make decisions, if you believe in something, do it.
Part of the new modern touchy feely democracy where everyone can have their say so that they feel they are being listened to by politicians. Its the facebook, twitter social media thing. Not a fan of it, but something has to be done because about 80% of politicians are either lawyers, or unionists, or professional political advisers ie only have worked for the party and/or politicians and they have a limited understanding of the real world.

If done correctly, it can be a very effective tool to gauge a community, its just a slightly juiced up version of a community consultation program.

There were many flaws with this one, the first being the invitations were sent out with the specific mentioning of "Nuclear" stamped all over them, meaning the people who were more willing to accept (you got like $500 for quite a few days work) were always going to be much more zealously opposed in general.

Secondly, they didn't restrict it to name and address, only the household, meaning the Dad might open the letter and think meh, but allow his beatnik hippy daughter to attend - again, opening it up to people that are vocal, rather than apathetic, leaning the results even more towards no.

There were about a gazillion of these small things which was always going to see a no result.

it would be a really interesting study on how to win votes and influence people.
