I understand where Chiwigi is coming from.

The progressive side of politics, in Australia and the US, need to get some campaigner back into us. We've had too many wins and have developed a soft underbelly. Meanwhile the other side of the coin have become (always were?) incredibly smart, mean and motivated. If social progression is to continue we have to start playing the game and playing it hard.

I'm sick to death of the relaxed nature of people left of centre. Where have the firebrands gone? We're supposed to be the passionate and determined ideologues!
Being rude to nazis makes you as bad as nazis according to liberals

The left is too busy fighting within itself as not everybody shares the same ideas of progression.
One day united by common politics, next day divided by squabbling over the relabelling of person access holes. Extremes never help. Meryl Streep belittling sports fans doesn't endear social progression to the masses.

forget Meryl what about Madonna...jeez. Secret service investigating.

Some people talk about elections like they're the Super Bowl. Is that what democracy is, the people have power for a brief time when they choose their masters then the rest of days are spent getting shit on and protests are pointless because it's "too late"?

You don't "lose" and accept it, you continue to be present and attempt to affect change when the people in power are actively against your interests.

The US is a republic, not a democracy. There are provisions in place that give the people natural rights rather than civil rights - in fact, the role of the office of President is to do nothing else but uphold and defend the Constitution, which includes the Bill of Rights.

Protest the people who can affect change - which is the local congress representative.

Couldn't Madonna start with something easier than blowing up the white house.. how about blowing up the american music industry herself included.. baby steps

lol the protests that are going on now is only going to get more neutrals think the left is full of nutters. Miss feel is notoriously neutral and the women's march was the last straw for her, she got so angry at protesters, it was kinda impressive.

Even at work (which is certainly a more progressive environment) has had people cracking it, some people in particular were quite surprising as they are pretty far left.

EDIT: Probably reinforces what Scooter just said.
What exactly made her angry? Grrrrr people marching and exercising their right to peaceful protest!

lol it was legitimately funny to watch at least. Rabid.

Probably exercising her right to get annoyed at people who get in the way I guess. She also felt that she wasn't sure what they were campaigning for and they "don't represent her"

Based white privileged miss feel.

What makes you think the protests weren't directed at law makers in Washington? You're really struggling to defend your 'protests don't matter' position.

Unless of course, he wants to abide by the core tenements of a western democracy. Of course he *legally* can do those things, but that wasn't the context of the discussion, which was that Trump will be the closest thing to a dictatorship we'll experience.

Which is accurate.

Yes a free media and press is a core tenet of western democracy (I think we agree on that) but it is NOT the ONLY one. That DOESN'T mean you, I or anyone else (the president included) is obliged or required to answer or even entertain what they (the media) say or the questions they may want to ask, that also is a core tenet of western democracy. Every president since Woodrow Wilson has entertained questions from the press at their own pleasure, that is the nature of a Presidential press conference the president gets to vet whom he will and will not field questions from - it's NOT something unique to President Trump.

Regarding your comment "Trump being the closest thing to a dictatorship we'll experience", I'll put this down to being pure hyperbole on your part, if not, it's somewhat insulting to those living and whom have lived under truly oppressive regimes.

I'm sure they were, but it kind of defeats the purpose when it becomes a homegenised blob of ire that can be dismissed by individual congress people as not representative of their particular constituency.

I never said protests don't matter. I said that protest was stupid because it wasn't focused.

"Forward" he cried from the rear...

'We are the new American resistance!': Bruce Springsteen's Australian tour kicks off in Perth

BRUCE Springsteen and the E Street Band declared themselves part of "the new American resistance" as they kicked off their Summer '17 Australian tour, and their first show since Donald Trump became President of the United States, at Perth Arena last night.

Admitting he felt "a long way from home", Springsteen told a packed house that he and the band supported the record crowds that had taken part in Women's March events across the US and Australia the day before.

"The E Street Band is glad to be here in Western Australia," he said.

"But we are a long way from home and our hearts and spirits are with the hundreds of thousands of women and men that marched yesterday in every city in America and in Melbourne Australia who rallied against hate, and division, and in support of tolerance, inclusion, reproductive rights, civil rights, racial justice, LGBTQ rights, the environment, wage equality, gender equality, healthcare and immigrant rights.

"On E Street we stand with you. We are the new American resistance!"

Bruce should stick to his bog average guitar playing and songwriting

During the Reaganomics era people like Bruce Springsteen, John Cougar Mellencamp, even Billy Joel(!) and the like had huge hits with songs that championed the (no longer) working man. Now those same people just voted in Trump

Yes, it is thoroughly bizarre. Surely they have more self awareness than that? They sung of and appealed to the working stiffs, the simple men, those who had fallen on hard times through no fault of their own, the straight white boys who played sports in high school who ended up with the straight white girls who were the cheerleaders...

Dear footy gods
if you have any heart at all then please hurry up and give us some footy to talk about. I swear if I have to read anymore depressing shit about the leaders of the most powerful countries in the world (and I use the term leaders extremely loosely), considering those said leaders would not be entrusted to cross the room holding a pair of scissors (thanks R. Brand) here in Australia, then I may take hostages. Please take pity on our souls and give us something else to get extremely worked up about. Thanks.

Good to see the Portaloo is entirely capable of imploding without my input

Based white privileged miss feel.

My partner asked me what she was missing and was she supposed to be there.
