Have you ever discussed Indigenous affairs with someone on the other side of the fence and genuinely changed their mind? I sure as hell haven't.
People that think there's one fence aren't going to change their mind.

And if anything centrists have two fences, both of them labelled "I'm not as bad as them".

Natalie Imbruglia and Dicko's reactions are more likely to make people reconsider than either Oldfield or Ballard.

One fence, two fences, no fences, it doesn't really matter it's just a turn of phrase.

Imbruglia I don't think so. She comes across as quite sheltered and a little dense IMO. I don't feel like she's actually empathizing with the people she meets apart from the odd obligatory "that's terrible" remark. I've only seen an episode and a half though so maybe I'm being harsh.

Dicko possibly. He seems like he's taking things on board and challenging his own views a bit. But then that ties in with my original point, without Oldfield there will people even tune in to this thing to see that process in action?

The people that are tuning in for Oldfield aren't going to change their mind because of the others.

For an anecdote of how pointless Oldfield's inclusion makes the documentary...

Of the times that I've seen or heard people talk about `I saw this interesting documentary on transgender issues' that have made them more accepting, the ones they mention never include thinkpiece spew from hating extremists.

Yeah to some extent I agree that the education angle can be more effective, but I still think he's important for social context. Like it or not he does represent a massive chunk of Australian society (some of whom pervade my own family FFS) and these jerks form a significant part of the monster that Indigenous communities are up against.

As much as it pains me to say it I think the show would be weaker without him.

Magpiespower you weren't at the BP OTR on Salisbury Hwy at Salisbury this morning and able to give us a run down on what happened?

Police cars with lights flashing blocking the driveways and a crime scene tech van parked at the bowsers with techs going through the bins.

Damn. Missed out on the action. Turned right instead of left on my morning run. But on my way home saw a few coppers going into the "Grace's Place" apartment complex down the street. Again. Nothing'll convince me that joint isn't one big whorehouse...

The irony is strong with this one.

Still loving the new Metallica album. It's a grower.
